I got them as day old chicks last year.

I don't know what to tell you. I've only had chickens a couple of years so I don't know a lot. Do you have pictures of them? Maybe somebody lied to you and they're not leghorns.

leghorns have been called a lot of things but slow laying is not usually one of them.
Maybe they are sick? Or crossed with a slow layer.

This is my main breed here at the homestead.
I can't say enough good about them.

They came from a hatchery and its very easy to tell a leghorn from other breeds

Yes the combs are a nice bright red and large.
