Anyone else setting eggs this weekend? 8-3-12?

None of your friends have a generator. We had a big lightning storm here the other day so now my wife and kids are fully trained in generator pull start.
About a month ago lightening hit my house! I'm very lucky it did not burn down! However, the damage was extensive and everything was rewired and most replaced.

Yes, I have 12 eggs under my Australorp. She went broody so I ordered Ancona, Blue Ameracauna, and Salmon Faverolles. She is setting nicely.
This is my first hatch attempt..please wish me luck!!!

I candled three eggs so far and one Salmon Favorelle looks like it's developing nicely.

The faverolles must be a favorite! I do not have any in my flock, I usually on see bantams. I have a few bantams, but prefer the larger birds. I have cats and the big birds hold their own, but I think my cats could take a bantam pretty easy.

I had more eggs come in the mail today I have 7 more cream legbars to set and 7 lemon cuckoo orpingtons. Super excited, they will go my second incubator tonight! Woot Woot...I love it when I have both running at the same time.

Also, congrats to all of you who have seeing growth when you candle. I am still holding out for tomorrow night. Can't believe it has almost been a full week already... 1/3 down!

My cats leave my bantam alone. I'm glad too because I was very worried.

Awe she is very pretty! I lost a chick, probably about 2 weeks old to to one of my cats, I think. The momma hen had 5 babies and one night all but one made it into the coop. By the time I went down to count them and lock them in, the chick was long gone. I think right at dusk one of my cats got it. So I am extra careful now when they have babies just learning to use the ramp and to to bed. I have one tiny little bantam that will be 2 weeks old on Saturday...she is just now the size of a day old regular chick. Sadly, on her week birthday something happened to her leg and she could not put any weight down on it. So I moved her, her momma and another orphaned chick to my brooder. Good news is, she is healing nicely and is putting weight back down on that leg. But I do worry about her going back down to the coop with the rest of the girls...she is just so little, the size of a mouse. I plan on keeping them in the brooder for a few more days though...each day helps her I think.

I will try to take some pictures of them tonight and post them so you can see how tiny she is....super cute though!

thanks for the info ,willcandle ,then lockdown before power out & then wrap in a doona .so hope all will be well. I thought about moving them to another house but closest is 10 klms away so as u say was worried about jostling eggs, so will just have to wait & see.

Set in incubator Aug. 3rd. Candled today and I see my pure Ameraucana baby move.
