Anyone else setting eggs this weekend? 8-3-12?

My last hatch under my broody never looked like this! I could barely see the veins. I bought these online too. I wish all 6 would make it, but I think ones a quitter.

hi everyone ,candled last nite ,looks like 19 out of 21 good, 2 maybe's .only day 5.I'm happy 6 had been in fridge in a cartonfor a few days

Okay, I just candled and I removed one, it did not appear to be fertile. I have several others that appear to have the red ring of death, but my policy is to let them stay in until day 14. I have several that are growing right along and then several dark eggs, French Black Copper Marans and Partridge Penedsencas that I just can't see through the shell to really tell if they are quitters or growers, so they all get to stay another week. I will candle again on day 14 and remove ones that have shown no improvement.

I told my husband that if I get a ten percent hatch from these eggs I will be happy. They were all shipped and most from Georgia to Wyoming, which took them nearly a week to get here, and some of the eggs had been collected a few days before they shipped, so who knows with them. Like I have said before, hatching shipped eggs that come from sea level to high elevation creates its own challenges and I have just come to accept the lower hatch rates.

I did however just load my other incubator with 14 more eggs! :) Life is good.

Also, did you all see the thread that was started for World Egg Day Hatch? Set date of September 21 for a hatch on October12. I had told myself that this was going to be my last hatching for the year, but it does kind of seem like a fun thing to do....Guess I will see what eggs I might find to have delivered that week! :)

It looks like I'm having better success with my shipped eggs then the eggs I picked up locally.

Some of the ones I picked up locally were already started on a broody it looks like and chilled. I candled them all before putting them in the bator. I'm not sure if they are dead or actually growing. I can not see veins, but development? I'll leave them in the incubator for a while. Day 14 sounds good. I'm a little nervous about them all. I want a 100% hatch, but I know it's not happening.

I was looking at more to buy and I had to stop myself!!! We are heading into winter and I do not have enough room for raising more chicks. I have to see if the ones that are going will be able to find new homes first. It's so late in the year. I will put in a batch or two this spring. I want to see what breed. Right now I have pure Ameracauna eggs, but not the color hens I want. I like the different egg color in my egg cartons. I have a maran about to lay now.

I hope and pray I can hatch the first 5-6 that came in the mail. This is my first time using the incubator. I just bought a second small reptile hatching humidity checker thing, since I do not trust the one on top of my incubator. The temp is not correct.

Any updates?

One of the 6 eggs that was not developing I opened. Nothing started. Not sure if it was scrambled during shipping or what happened.

The other 12 I have 100% fertility. Yay! I hope they all hatch since they will be in there another 5 days after the first batch hatches. I marked them with x and o since I will not be putting the egg turner back in after the first hatch.

I'm really happy with the incubator. I have been able to keep a very steady temperature and the humidity has been stable too! I've only added water twice in the last 10 days. I'm keeping my temp at 99.5 and humidity at 50-55%, mostly 50%.

Nothing new to report here. I will candle again on Friday, unless it is really killing me..then I might on Wednesday and toss out the quitters.

My last set of eggs should ship this week. Well I say it is my last set of eggs to hatch this year, but then I noticed that World Egg Day Hatch along and that has me thinking. So who knows. Both of my incubators have been running steady and no issues so far.

I just noticed about an hour ago that one of my neighbors geese has come over to visit, and my chickens are not super happy about it. She is in the hospital, had a baby yesterday, so I am sure the goose is just over here to spread the great news. :)

Nothing new here either. Gonna candle again on Wednesday & get rid of the couple I suspect are quitters and a couple that look like they have the red ring of death. I wish my humidity would stay constant...if I add water it seems to go too high & without anything I feel like it runs a tad too low. If I hatch anything at this point it will be a miracle

I'm sorry to hear about your humidity problems.:(. It's pretty humid outside here and I wonder if this is helping my incubator steady. What incubator are you using? I'm using a cheap styrofoam one with a fan and egg turner, so far its working awesome! I wanted the bersina, but the one I wanted was a bit pricey.

I do hope you have a decent hatch! I'm so new to this and inexperienced. My first hatch was 4 months ago under a broody and she ate two pipping chicks. I was able to hatch 3, but the one I hatched completely myself that was shrink wrapped is not growing well. She's healthy, but the size of a 2 month old if that.

She's a barred EE and her cheek feathers are just popping out! She was very slow to feather as well.

I candled last night and of the 81 eggs I put in the incubator it looks like 65 are good. I also candled the 14 quail eggs I added 4 days later and it looks like 10 are good. Not bad for my new quail roo.
