Anyone else setting eggs this weekend? 8-3-12?

Okay....I just read that post about 81 eggs in the incubator and told my husband to back off...he is giving me a hard time about having 30 something going. I told him that I was small potatoes, but sure would like a cabinet 'bator.

I am pretty sure he just rolled his eyes at me and said something under his breath. lol

I'm pretty sure my hubby would not be happy if I bought a big incubator. The one I have I think it fits 41 with the egg turner. He'd probably be kinda upset if I hatched that many. We do not have the room since we do not have that much land.

I told him yesterday we'd be better off on farmland and he agreed.

I'm sorry to hear about your humidity problems.

. It's pretty humid outside here and I wonder if this is helping my incubator steady. What incubator are you using? I'm using a cheap styrofoam one with a fan and egg turner, so far its working awesome! I wanted the bersina, but the one I wanted was a bit pricey.
I do hope you have a decent hatch! I'm so new to this and inexperienced. My first hatch was 4 months ago under a broody and she ate two pipping chicks. I was able to hatch 3, but the one I hatched completely myself that was shrink wrapped is not growing well. She's healthy, but the size of a 2 month old if that.
She's a barred EE and her cheek feathers are just popping out! She was very slow to feather as well.
I'm using a Hova Bator 1588 with a fan & turner. It's usually humid here too, so not sure what the problem is. I'm getting close to lockdown, so gotta make sure I reign it in this week. I'll be more experienced next time

Of course if I get even 10 that hatch, that will be more than enough, since we already have so many. Hubby just announced to me last night "I hate chickens" as we were corralling our 27 almost 6 week olds into their coop

I told him I could have worse addictions...

These are also my chickens as well. Hubby's role is to build the coop and revise it to make it better.:p. Too bad he didn't make it bigger. I might turn the run into a more permanent coop once we fence in our property next year. We cover it and use it all winter anyways.

The chickens, chicks, hatching eggs are 100% my responsibility/hobby. Funny, it was his idea to get chickens in the first place and only have 2 or 3 tops. I somehow fell in love with them and now I'm hatching. ;)

I heard the hovabator was pretty good. That would be my next choice. I have the farmers innovators 4200 and I am very happy with it so far. The only issue is the thermometer on the lid is not accurate, but they send a second thermometer to set on top of your eggs. I bought an extra small hygrometer and the one on the lid is accurate. The test will be how many will hatch and will it work this well in the future. If I need to buy a new one, I'd buy the hovabator. I'd keep the fan and egg turner for sure and use it for the next one. It's very nice to have. I might check my eggs today. I want to check the water level too. It's been a while since I added any.

Funny..that is my husbands job too...fix, build and do the heavy lifting. He does spend a fair amount of time with the chickens and will occasionally pick one up and hold it. He does for sure like the eggs.

I currently have 83 chickens in three different coops, but we are going to build another larger coop before winter, with some breeding pens to keep my breeders away from the layer flock. I have two Brinsea incbuators and really don't need anything larger, I just like to tease my hubby about wanting something bigger. I would have never known that I would have fallen so hard for chickens. I just enjoy spending time with them...watching them interact and doing all the silly things they do. Wish I would have discovered them sooner in my life. But I have them now and can't really imagine not having them.

OK it is day 11 by my book.So I get up my nerve to go check on some eggs I got in the mail and candle them. The 1st egg is clear ( here we go again )
Next few eggs are good

. I even checked the free Silkie egg she gave me and it is fertile with a black spot. Now if all is well I will have Some Black Jersey Giants to keep MY 5 other Jersey Giant chicks company.. I stopped checking after 6 eggs, did not see the need to disturb all of them yet. So I may have some Blue Orpington and a Silver Silkie to add to the bunch. I may take up someones suggestion and sell eggs at the farmers market if it turns out I can.

Well I was bored yesterday so I candled my eggs. I took away about 4 that I could easily had quit or never started. I have a feeling that I will be taking away at least 10-12 more between now and lock down. Such is the way it goes with shipped eggs. I tolld my husband from the start that if I had 10-12 hatch from the 30 something I would be happy.

I figure if I get 5 healthy Jersey giants I am good. The Silkie egg and the Orpington were just toss ins, might be curious to see a Silver Silkie and We have tossed around the idea of selling eggs at the local farmers markets if we can. I am looking into regs for that now.

Candled my eggs last night, looks like only 7 out of 18 are good, and even a couple of those I am not sure. Then my husband added three duck eggs last week, not sure about those yet, and not sure what to do with them during lock down. I don't have the heart to throw any of the unfertile or dead eggs away yet.

hi ,candled last nite .had one quitter& 2 clears ,but have 13 light sussex & 5 australorp x leghorns all good (day11) ,getting egg - cited now as my first incubation
