Anyone else TV-free?

TV-free? Nope, but I am willing to accept the challenge! I will spend the next 8 hours tv free.

I could go without tv, but losing the internet would give me convulsions...I am, hoever, too cheap to pay for cable. Not having cable is a great ice breaker at parties.

Everyone wants to know about the weirdos.

LOST is awesome in HD, especially free HD!

We have never much been into TV. We may watch the occasional movie with a vcr, but besides that, we really don't watch it.

We have accumulated 4 tvs but we used to only have a very small one. Like I said we only used it to watch a movie once in a while, but I got the idea that people thought we couldn't afford a big nice, one. Really we didn't care much for it. People we knew started giving us tvs and now we have 4 of them.

We unhooked our t.v the beginging of 05' so we could spend the time remodeling our house to sell move to the mts. (NASCAR takes up sooo much time on the weekends!!)

Once we moved, we didn't buy a dish(only way for reception here). We watch videos and dvds.

When we go to peoples houses, it always reminds us of why we don't have tv!

No one we know can understand how we can live with no tv. The most common remark is "What do you do??" They just don't get the idea of conversation(especially with your spouse!), reading, games, learning, outdoor activities, work, etc.

We do miss a few things still, mostly history and educational things. When we go visit family, I do let DGD watch cartoons though(she usually doesn't want to or gets bored with them quickly).

Yeah, it was when I moved to the farmhouse and my TV wasn't working well, so I left it behind. That was when I decided not to replace it. I was so sick of watching too much TV that I was going to experiment with not having a TV. Just didn't miss it. In fact, I was relieved when it was gone. So moving is a good excuse not to get the new TV spot 'set up'.

Forgot, we also do not have cell phones. People can't imagine how we get by without them! We don't even like to answer our house phone!

People are even ruder now than they used to be because they are always talking on the phone when they should be paying attention to something else.

We took DMIL out to dinner last sat. night. When we left, I remarked to DH about how many people were having dinner with someone but were on the phone the whole time with someone else! How extreamly rude!!

Not TV free but it is not on much. I personally could live without the TV and do mostly during the week. If time permits and there is something decent on Animal Planet, The History Channel or Discovery I will watch. Or I might watch an old black and white movie if time permits and I feel like popcorn. My DH is gone during the week and only home on weekends. I barely find time to grab a bite to eat at night much less veg out in front of a TV. If I have time to sit and do nothing I prefer to read or just simply sit outside in the swing and do nothing. I do watch TV on Saturday night - my only reason for having a TV and cable is Professional Bull Riding on Versus. Can I live without it - YES. Do I want to. NO - Its one of my few indulgences.
Well one of my few indulgences besides the chickens, the bird, the cat, the dog, the rat, my flowers and garden, reading and ........ummmmmm maybe I have more than a few. LOL

Actually it was a theater set somewhere in Russia I think. Do an internet search for Redneck Mansion.
I just loved the pic. Living in Mississippi I just found it amusing and when I saw it knew it was the perfect avatar for ME since I am the Queen Redneck of my family and neighborhood.

Cold Turkey......

Really if you want to be TV free just do it. Unplug the thing. That way if you want to watch you have to do something besides just pick up the remote. Gives you a minute to think. If you and the WHOLE family are serious - remove the TV from your house.
But if you want to keep your tv and watch occasionally - unplug it after each use.
