Anyone Else Waiting For The Volcano Ash To Lift

I feel exactly the same way. I was just over there a few weeks ago and it's never crossed my mind that I can't fly over the Atlantic at a moments notice! Seems nothing I believe is real anymore.

I wish I still lived in New York, I would have gone to the airport and brought home a few "refugees" to help them out. I know what it's like to get stuck in an airport, but not for this long. Alot of people have run out of money and need a hot shower and a good meal. I hope the flights get moving tomorrow so I can start to plan my next escape...

I hope you son has made it home by now. Sounds like he really deserves some time home with his family.
I was effected here in Australia yesterday as the ash cloud made its second pass over the southern states. Over 1000 miles from home - no address book for people to contact and an almost dead mobile phone. I was sent to Queensland for the day at work, and had to travel despite having a teenaged daughter who would be home on her own until my return late in the evening. I got to the airport for my return flight only to hear my flight was cancelled. Luckliy I was travelling with the national sales manager of the company I work for- who organised a hire car... and so began the long roadtrip home. Using his phone- we got a hold of my daughter at home- and got her to google a map to choose out route home- and to find us a motel where we could stop at around midnight for a few hours sleep. My two hour meeting has ended up costing a small fortune. I racked up $90 in taxi fares- and copped a fee of $100 for parking at the airport. The rooms cost $120 each and I dont even want to think about what the hire car may have cost.

My daughter did a wonderful job taking care of all the ducks and ducklings ( about 45 at the moment ) She is fifteen but I was still worried for her being home alone.

I will be suggesting a conference call via a phone hook up next time a meeting is needed. Ash cloud or not..I dont want to have to travel again like that EVER.
