Anyone else's chicks hatching in May??

This might be beginner's luck, but I got 17 chicks out of 18 eggs. The last one suffocated and I didn't notice it in time to help it. Poor chick. Of the 17, one of them has a bad leg. I hope that in time his/her leg will gain strength and be normal. Does any one have experience with chicks having bad leg/foot? Can you share your experience and how to help them? The one I have does not seem interested in water or food, just sleep. I am worried.

I'm gonna lurk, because I'm having the same issue. My Maran chick hatched out with a weaker leg and crooked toes. I taped the toes and they are straight now, but the leg still seems weaker. It also doesn't want to eat or drink. I have been syringe-watering it, and got a little bite of mush down it.

Im hatching eggs now but i need help
Earlier there was a peep in the chick and i took it out to check on it i put itback in and left it and i few minute later the hen went crazy and rippedit open it got the chick out and ate the shell i thought it was a good mother the chick was cheeping and everything was fine so i came back about half an hour later and she had ripped the chick apart and ate half off it i was so worried i looked up online and it said that the hen sometimes kills all the chicks because its not their own so i went out 5 minutes ago and tried to get the hen out to get the eggs and put them in an incubator and i started to move the hen about and i saw a baby chick underneath fine but then the hen went crazy and peeked an egg open but there was nothing in it so i am very worried if wat will happen in the morning if all my chicks will die and i will have none

By the way i also read up that they kill the chicks if there is something wrong with it i just dont know what to do
Please help:(

Wow! How horrible!

I have never heard of such things. I don't know what others would recommend, but if it was me, I would not trust any egg or chick with that crazy hen. She already proved twice what she would do to the eggs and chicks. Please take all the eggs and put them in the incubator. Save the little chicks' lives. Now, this sounds silly, but for comparison, if that hen was a women who went crazy and hurt her children, she would be in jail and had all the kids taken away.

Sissy was really wanting to take a dust bath today, and it was warm and sunny, so I let her and the chicks outside for a short time. Boy did she enjoy her dust bath!

And the chicks seemed to have a lot of fun on their first big excursion outside at 2 days old! Here are some pics...

I found some links regarding bad foot that were previously shared by another member. Hope your chick will recover.

two of my chicks hatched and 1 may be on its way this was out of a possible 14 BUT at least i got at least 2 so they will have company for each other:D

It's doing pretty well. I took the little casts off its feet today, and it is doing pretty good getting around. It is smaller than its sibling, but hanging in there.
The top is the bigger one, and the bottom is the one I've had to spend a little extra time with :)
