Anyone ever had your arm numbed for surgery???

THat's where DH had his too. His Dr. was young, and we laughed that he would look more at home with an electric guitar around his neck, than a stethescope! He did good work though.

Did you get the whole "Frankenstien" arm thingy yet? It is pulleys and wheels, that keep your fingers in position to stretch the "new" tendons - the kids thought it was way freaky!! (would have been great for Halloween, LOL)

It's awful. I had surgery on my wrist several times to fix it (never did) and I swear I thought they put boiling water in my vein to deaden it! Better than being put all the way out, though. When the feeling came back, I thought I was dieing the first time. By the last surgery, the nerve was so damaged it didn't even hurt. Go figure...

right now mine is bandaged, but it is huge, they sure like to use alot of wrapping. Before I had a brace, I just got it off alittle more then a month ago,and now I'm back to the beginning !! I think I have to go to another brace again. I think alot of it depends on your doctor they all do thing differently I have Dr. Kaplan

I had surgery on my elbow last april. They numbed my entire arm and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!!!!
He told me to make sure it stayed in the sling because if it swung out and hit a door jam, he said I could actually break my hand, and not even know it for 48 hours!!!! I also experienced the "ghost itch" , similar to amputees who feel an itch or pain, but can't scratch it.

I can believe that, I hit my elbow on the door and didn't feel a thing !!! It is stll numb, but at least I'm feeling no pain. YET!!

I would suggest that you load up one the pain pills right now. Take 2 every 4 hours or whatever the max dose is. When that nerve block wears of you will have a hard time knocking the pain down unless you have some pain killers on board already. Been there done that.
