Anyone getting chicks shipped from Meyer today? Want to wait with me?

They arrived just before 1:00. The bridge on my road was out so I drove (very quickly) down the road and walked across the bridge to meet the postman. All 12 very alert, hungry, and thirsty. I sat with them until they began to fall asleep under the sweeter heater. 2 buff orpingtons, 2 buff brahmas, 2 light brahmas, 2 australorps, 2 welsummers, and 2 partridge cochins. They had a ton of energy and the heat pack was still warm when I opened the box. Sigh of relief!

I am glad the chicks are healthy. I got my order of six from them last Tuesday. I was impressed with the short shipping time but one died within 24 hours, the salmon favorelle that I was looking forward to. I didn't report it to them because I could tell that the packaging etc showed that Meyer did their best.

24 hours later and all of my chicks are doing good. What a relief! My ducklings that I also ordered from Meyer Hatchery arrived at the post office today, but they weren't so lucky. All 3 of them are dead, so I had to go get a box that didn't have cute little peeps coming from it.

Called the hatchery and found out that the truck that they were on had a mechanical issue and had to sit for an hour to an hour and a half and the birds didn't get ventilation, so all waterfowl on that truck died. How sad!! They are sending me ducklings next week to replace them.

Got mine this morning. Dragged the kids out of bed and headed to the post office. All five seem happy and healthy. They are eating and drinking and being chickens.

I even had a dream last night about getting them! It's all I have been able to think about lately. I hope they are all well, we'll find out real soon!
