Anyone go to Germany?

I want to buy a cuckoo clock while I am over there!! i googled oberammergau..on images!! oh my!! magically beautiful!!

I've been a few times. I always lose a lot of weight when I go there cause I cant stomach the food. I did eat horse there and loved it, though. Shame we can't do it here. I was in Munich and Berlin. The landscape is beautiful, and prices aren't outrageous there, either.

Personally, I'd start in Germany, and work your way thru Austria and Switzerland too.

I'm going to Germany next year, going to Hamburg - according to my teacher that's one of the only places where they speak "beautiful German" and no odd slang.

As for German classes... I've been learning for four years and only just getting to the good stuff, but a class would be good for picking up the basics.

DH and I went to Germany in 2004. We loved it. The Company that DH works for is based in a town just out of Stuttgart. We got to go with other employees up North to a small town and watch that years European Track Pull Championship. DH and I were 2 of only 6 Americans at the event. We had a blast, it was even nicer because we got to sit in the VIP section. We like most of the food. Stuttgart is not far from the Black Forest. We were able to spend a day driving to the Towns of Triberg. The Germans told us to buy the clock at the stores at the lowest part of the towns. I love my clock. If you get to go there, please let me know. There is another clock that I can still remember, and I still want. I will somehow figure out how I can get it. lol

There was a cafe very near Triberg that had the best food I think I have ever eaten.

Frankfurt is a great start. They have some fantastic restaurants and cultural venues to see. Take a trip East towards Autobahn # 4 if you want to see some of the real Germany where there are no tourists.
