Anyone had else had their Wal Mart downsized?

oh Not here in Lafayette, La.

infact , we have 4 super centers and they are all busting at the seams .... MALLS are WAY to expensive now a days to even consider going there .

We also have 2 target super centers as well . People here freaked out when K-mart shut down in this area , but they could not compete .

Walmart also cancelled ALL LAY AWAY departments 2 years ago ... They LOST a bundle .

I am afraid we will all see other stores shutting down due to this economy . Sure won't see new stores opening up , NOT anytime soon . So , I guess we have to grit and bare what is available ....

For those of you looking for closer places , you can also shop online and have delivered to your doorstep .

I feel the same way as all of you. I get crabby just walking in the door and the associates are not that friendly anymore. When there's a store of unfriendly workers, that tells me that it's a management problem at the top. We have four Wal-Marts that we can shop at, all at least 20 miles away, but there really isn't much choice other than Kroger. I do shop at Kroger when I can't find something at Wal-Mart, but Kroger is much higher. The fabric departments are disappearing at most of our Wal-Marts here. I was told by a Hobby Lobby lady that the same fabric is cheaper at Wal-Mart because their fabric has a lower thread count. It looks exactly the same otherwise.

I would be willing to pay higher prices if I had a butcher shop or a co-op. I'm not even sure about butchers. My neighbor worked at a big chain store in Florida years ago as a butcher and he said when he became a Christian he had to quit. His conscience wouldn't let him do what the store required. I've heard that some meat is often kept by butchers when home-grown steers are cut and wrapped. All you butchers don't fuss at me--that's the story here.

I avoid WalMart because I can't stand the crowds. But I have to wonder just how warranted the hatred for them is. I know more people who love working there than hate it. One friend said he was tired of being replaced by someone's nephew in family grocery stores and loves just being one of the herd. He has a more fair chance at promotions. My cousin makes good money up in the office doing orders. She's been there for over 10 years - probably closer to 15. Two people at church with masters - they chose to work there because they have a better starting wage and benefits than jobs in their majors would bring in. They say they can't afford to do what they were trained to do. These are just a few of the people I know who like it there.

I've heard all of the complaints, saw the WalMart movie. Most people that complain either never shop there or have never worked there. I'm so confused!

PS they are building another super WalMart in our town. I can hardly wait - maybe my local grocery store will have fewer people in it when I so shopping.

Not here. They just built 2 new ones in the area and are in the process of building 2 more and I live in the western peidmont of NC. Everytime you turn around there is a new one popping up somewhere.

My lady in the fabric dept said that they were only getting rid of the fabric depts in certain stores where they don't do much business.

I like walmart because if you run out of scratch feed on a Sunday, you can go in their and buy some.. Although they come in 40 pound bags now, I normally pay $11.00 at the feed store and pay $7.00 at wally world.

I don't love Walmart, but we do shop there, they carry the kind of milk I like (Oakhurts Dairy), the cat food we like is the cheapest there, and hubby buys all his auto parts there, oil changes, air filters, etc. If he needs real system parts he'll go to the local auto store. Boxed or canned groceries are sometimes cheaper there, but you have to shop around, just like we always have.

All of the Walmarts here have fabrics still, but there are also thriving AC Moore and Michael's stores nearby, along with JoAnn Fabrics, none of them seem to have been harmed by Walmart.

We frequently go to Walmart up in NH when we're going through to and from our home up in Maine, and I do most of my supermarket shopping up there, at Market Basket, the prices are amazingly cheaper than Stop & Shop or Shaws down around here. There's a huge superstore down in Plymouth, brand new, if I want to go to one near by. Super Walmarts are kind of a new thing around here in southeastern MA, there's tons of competition for them with all the supermarket chains, so they're really just another supermarket, with more hard goods and non-grocery items.

Where are you located ? I don't think our Walmarts carry large quanities of feed ... Oh they have the little stuff like for parrots , etc.

There's no Wal*Mart anywhere near us. BUT, when we visit Newport, RI, there's one in the less ritzy part of town, and I love going there. New kitchen towels, new bath rugs, spanky white undies! Can life get any better than that?
