Lockdown tomorrow night....yeah, me! My DGD is here and she is my chicken partner. We are spending tomorrow getting things ready for the impending hatch!!! Forgot to get chick starter....go figure. I just hope I get a halfway good hatch.

I am getting a little nervous here.....lol.....

Will be watching..only a couple of more days until something should happen!

HELP somthing happend to second chick there is a hole where his bum should be? I was not home when he hatched, but there is somthing organy attached to the shell??? Will he live?

Probably not his/her bum! It's hard to tell where what's what sometimes. Sounds like it still has some yolk, and blood there..it's ok. It will dry up and fall off in time. Thinking there is no worry.

That is the remaining egg yolk that is supposed to be absorbed before hatch. Your chick hatched a little early. Best thing to do is to keep it away from the other chicks in the incubator for a while, like overnight is good. The naval should finish closing and the rest of the yolk should dry up and fall off. Sometimes there are problems if it gets pecked by other hatching chicks or if it rubs against wire rack. If you have a small shoe box or tupperware you could put it in inside the bator that should work. Just make sure not to interrupt your air circulation.

Congrats on your babies. I hope this little one heals up quick for you.

Not a peep pip or rock going on. I am thinking I am out of luck with my lemon blue cochins

Anyone know if the standard cochins take longer to hatch since they are such a big bird? Just grasping here! My temps have been steady lately with good humidity but I just don't know.

Well, over all I had a really good hatch in my classroom. All 4 of my Bourbon Red turkeys hatched!

Started with 32 assorted chicken eggs, 27 went into lockdown and 20 hatched. This included 10 Marans which were so dark, I couldn't tell if any of them were developing or not. I had to toss one early due to a hole in the tip??? Wierd. 4 hatched on day 21, but the other 5 just sat there, no pip, no movement. Today was Day 23, tonight would've been 24, so I tossed them.

All the teachers and staff would come in and ask "You hatched all of these? You're really having good luck. No one else here has been able to get any to hatch. They all go to the co-op and buy chicks" This is soooo ironic because we're a really really rural school! Too bad I got cut due to budget cuts for next year. Guess I'll have to find a position in town.

Congrats on your hatch GJ_Kate!
