I only have 1 hen (my tom was eaten by a coyote), but she is a really nice turkey! Friendly and calm, but she is small so she can fly. Hopefully I'll get some more hens and another tom from my eggs!

Hi! You found us! Great. Did you see the other home made bator on this thread? You should post your pictures of your bator here for all to see..it's great.

Mine are due the 7th! Which is my oldest dd's birthday, and I didn't plan it that way rotfl. This waiting is killing me though. They are lemon blue cochins and I am dying to meet them!

Hi Friends,
I set 9 Silkie eggs on 3/17 at midnight and I estimate a hatching date of 4/6. These were fertile hatching eggs bought online through the mail. I ordered 3 white silkie and 4 red silkie eggs because my new bator only has space for 7 eggs. It is the Brinsea Mini Advance EX. They were nice enough to send me 2 extra red Silkie eggs but I had no room to set them in the egg shaped cutouts of the automatic turner. The place I got the eggs said to lay the 2 extra on top of the others which I did. I woudn't even consider throwing them away! Am hoping for the best. This is my first time using a bator but I have read everything I could find about incubating.

I just couldn't resist so I candled the Silkie eggs today with my new Ova Scope and although I am not too experienced at candling, I saw 7 eggs with the embryo and spiderweb of veins, 1 with nothing going on, and 1 with what looks like the dreaded red circle of bacteria. On what day should I discard the red circle egg if nothing changes with it?

I am subscribing to this thread for the hatch along. Good luck to all!

Welcome!
I have had some look like a blood ring in the beginning, and it just turned out to be the way the blood vessels were. I would wait until day 7 to see how things are.. Are you seeing anything else...black dot moving? Other blood vessels? If not, I would get it out pretty quick. You will know by day 7 for sure if there is any movement going on.
