I only have 4 fully hatched. The other 5 are close.

Life is never boring here either..my DH and I did the "his, mine, and ours" thing. 12 kids between the two of us..older now..but with all those kids came a whole lot of grandchildren...number 30 will be here in July! Never a dull moment. My grandkids love collecting eggs when they come..or...seeing baby chicks.

Yeah everything so far is going pretty good. My 3 year old was holding one this morning and it jumped out of her hands..... fell a little bit.....maybe 18 inches. I hope its ok. It seems to be. Some of them get kind of wild and she does a good job holding them her hands just arent big enough.
I figured I wouldnt make you wait for the pictures. Maybe ill take a picture of that last dud egg before I dispatch it to fertilizer.

Here are the ones in my brooder.

These are the Barred Rocks in the bator yet this morning. The one on the top of the first picture is the one that is scooting on its butt. Thats exactly what it seems like he is doing. Paddling

Great pictures Bigtime!

Now, what you going to do with all those babies?

Don't worry, little Scooter will come along. Pick it up every now and again, make it stretch it legs out, then put it upright on those legs.

Have fun...keep a lot of your barred rocks, you will love the eggs you get from them. The Buffs lay pretty good too, their eggs aren't quite as large as my barrs..can't remember what your other ones are? Oh, EE's! You have to keep them..you have kids! Great colors!

Hey Chevy, are ya up?

That is a concern about the legs isn't it? I have noticed if they take a while coming out with help, that we then go into the process of>>>therapy! You may notice that the baby will want to lay on one side more than the other because the one leg just isn't quite strong enough. I go in and pick them up where they want to stretch out both legs. Then set them back down and try to see if they will get that leg out there. I have a couple that I'm going to have to work with.
I hope I don't come across as a know it all..I'm not! I've helped a few chicks out. Often times it works..sometimes it doesn't, especially if I go too fast. I've learned to go slow like you've been doing.
Waiting to see how this little one is..I'm guessing it will be fine...is it chirping loud? Like, let me outta here already!

Lol haven't slept!

uhh...what pretty pictures. want...more...chicks...must...incubate again.....Oh Well.

Sounds like your life is a lot more busy than ours Cynthia. No kids in our family. Only chicks and foals. Told my husband that I can at least put those away for the night and sell them if it doesn't work out

My hubby travels throughout the week and I work 50+ hr so it makes it interesting sometimes. Yesterday my office coworkers were wondering why I was so antsy and when I said that it is "HATCHING TIME" they couldn't understand my excitement. Good luck with your remaining 5 eggs. I hope all will be well!

actually after about 28hrs, several trips to a steamy bathroom and an empty hot water heater later...The chick pop the rest of the way out and was runnin around the bator, although it seriously screwed up my other eggs; that were hatching so peacfully, because it was dragging around a shell on its butt! it finally came off. Needless to say i think my other pips hatched alot quicker due to the lack of breaks allowed due to my troublesome aunry chick!

Now i need to pick a good name for him! He is something else! and he had Huge feet!!! (will upload his photo soon!)

glad your guy made it, how about naming him hugo?

Love the name!.. and the and the Cologne!

Finally, another one out and screaming..one of my RIR's! Please be a girl..please be a girl!

Hey , I seem to have one of those every time. Most of the time I just leave them and they are fine. If they are pipped , they shoud be able to breath. The 2 time I lost 1 pipped through a blood vein in the membrame and bled out, and had one that somehow poked his yolk sac, He piped on the wrong end, and later the yellow stff leaked out. Those are the only two that did not make it for me. I am amazed that some pip, and do nothing for 24 hrs, some pip and zip in 2 or 3.

I am almost positive it is shrink wrapped

okay this is what i had to do get really warm water in a bowl and gently start picking shell off first then gently start trying to take the white sac off while your keeping your fingers wet keep putting water on the whole area that you took shell off of DONT get it by chicks mouth but gently rub the sac thats around chicks head like your pelling something off keeping your fingers wet you will see it will all come off slowly and gently DO NOT take it all the way off the butt area cause it will pry still be hooked to the belly button after you get it to its feet then STOP and put it back in incubator and the sac will dry up off chick when it gets mobile. i had to do this with 2 of my ass backwards chicks and their running around eating everything they can

Have you tried that old wives tale trick with the pulling them and see what the legs do? I tried that yesterday but I don't know if I did it right. According to it I would have half and half.
