That is my next project, to build a coop and run just for my silkies! My Dad and brother in law had to help me and hubs build the one we have now, as neither of us are very crafty, and now it's hard to get them motivated to help us,

I wish I knew more about that kind of stuff!!

That's my current project also, I want to keep my sizzles/silkies seperately from my Marans and the other "big kids." I asked my hubby to bring home some pallets from his work and he was hesitant, then all of a sudden he said he'd need to get me plywood and siding and insulation...

Speaking of that, I should ask all of you Silkie owners... how big do they get?

Yea that's why I want a seperate coop, because there so much smaller and I don't like them getting picked on. How are you planning on making yours? I need some simple ideas that me and hubs might be able to do ourselves.

And I agree with y'all about keeping the silkies separate from the LF flock. I couldn't sleep with them being in together. I just turned my little grow-out coop into a separate silkie pen as I have LF cochins, orpingtons and marrans and I don't want my pretty little silkies to get picked on. It's bad enough when the big girls pick on each other.

My partner said..'that's a big coop and run for a couple of silkies?"(I have 4 in there now + 8 chicks in the brooder (that includes 2 paints I picked up this weekend at a swap)...little does he know about the 24 coming to hatch for Christmas!)

Yea I really want t build a seperate coop for my silkies, right now the ones I have don't get picked on anymore, they had to learn to stand up for themselves, but I want them to feel like they are head of there own coop, I just don't know how!!!

I was just planning on ripping down some pallets, I did a google search on pallet coops and a lot of useful information popped up. My hubs can get as many as I need for free, but I'm still going to have some expense because I'm a girl who wants a "pretty" coop, lol. From what I can tell you can ask different businesses and they'll just give them away for free as they often have more than they know what to do with. Seemed like an economic way to go.
