I had the same question, and just found out the answer this weekend as one of my silkie girls finally went broody. Your pretty much right though, they will stay on there eggs almost the whole day, even at night when my other chickens roost, she is in the nest on her eggs, and she gets a little attitude if I try to get them from under her, which I have to do daily because all my birds are mixed together right now, I put 2 of my shipped eggs under her last night, so I am hoping they will hatch despite of the cold weather!
