and with crumbles on top bet they would luv ittt! I already bought grit and put it in with them, they kinda peck at it and "dance" in it lol I am always scolding them "EW YOU POOP THEN WALK IN IT THEN DANCE IN SOMETHING YOU PUT IN UR MOUTH BAD BABIES" lol

Am wondering if there are any rules about when to feed what to young birds...eg is is it best to keep them on crumbles up until a certain age and then start varying their diet? I had heard that for the first week, for example, it is best not to feed wet food as they can get "pasty vent"?

We have three new babies in a box in our living room - two Polish and one Japanese Bantam. Unbelievably cute the little Jap leaps into my hand and cuddles into it as soon as i reach into the box. Yesterday she ran up my arm flapping her little wings! Too adorable.

Awe cute! Mine tend to do that too, they must be similar in age! I was told at least a week for treats or older. Mine just rolled over the 1 week 3 day mark so I think tonight will be their first treat! Maybe a scrambled egg, or plain yogurt, or oats lol not sure yet! As for the pasty bottom business I hope that is not am issue, was told these treats are the best to give at such a young age

"ehhhh I will take and play with it......" lol! Needless to say either they are not ready for treats or just don't like organic lol will try again on these in a few weeks! Here is what they do like I discovered over the weekend, Crickets

yummy, little white bird seed (not sure of the name, but only the white one's all of the other fifty bagillion in the bag ick) also yummy everything else icky! They seriously were looking at me like "ew gross, seriously?" Yet they peck at there own droppings, fuzz, dust whatev but had no appetite for the good stuff! I will try whole wheat spaghetti and get some worms as recommended, see if they like that. Maybe at a week and a half they just did not have stomach to try new things.

When you fed them plain yogurt you didn't happen to put some food pellets in it did you? I really recommend yogurt because at that age their digestive system sucks and pasty butts are very common and can make them sick if you don't clear them out right away. Mine were getting chicken baths quite regularly when I got them because of the pasty butt and i didn't know how to fix it until I got on this forum. Plain yogurt has active cultures in it that will give them a healthy digestive system. If you make it taste like their food they will be more receptive to it. Good luck with your new babies!
