Anyone have a rooster that didn't crow???

Buying from a pullet pen dosen't always ensure you get just pullets either. Two of my 3 Leghorns are roos and I bought them from a locked pullet brooder at a feed store.

That's absolutely right. My RIR turned bright red comb and wattles at 5 weeks. Now at 8 weeks I still don't know if it is a pullet or not. Luckily, the place I bought them takes back any roosters. I have the choice of rehoming myself or bring back to the farm store. It's very hard not to be attached. I spend a lot of time with my chicks.

Ofcourse that is always a chance.... My TSC sold me straight run by mistake. I think there all roo's but one of them... Which upsets me

they gave me 10 more pullets for free.... O well. I have homes for a couple of the roe's..... But one lady from TSC said she will take ALL of them.... Which makes me think freezer camp... But just think they lived a good life and if you ever get chicks and don't want roo's order offline. And if you dont want the 25 min., go to mypetchicken.com they will ship as little as three birds depending on your area... They will ship four to me because I live farther away from a big city... But if you live near one, you can get as little as 3.
Good Luck To You!

My rooster never crowed until he was about 8 months old. I think my old roo must have attacked him when he crowed as a baby because we had to separate him from the flock and nurse him back to health. I think he was terrified to crow after that, even though he was the only rooster. I thought we got lucky and got a silent roo, but at about 8 months, he crowed and now he just crows and crows all day and half the night.

We've had a few Roos over the years and they crowed incessantly. I'm sure this depends upon the breed and personality of each rooster, but if your neighbors asked you not to, I'd not keep a rooster. If the rooster had an excited day and crowed 30 or 40 times an hour (yes, this can and does happen) then you'd unnecessarily rupture your neighborly relationship. Not really worth it, imho. By the way, some of them have really, really loud pipes!!!

I had a roo that attacked me, so he went to a new home. That bugger crowed IN the small box that he could not stand and stretch in ALL the way to his new home. Then when we let him out at his new home,, he promptly attacked his new owner. We ran for it. I had given the guy notice th ebird was beautiful but mean

I have three Roos (one d'Uccle and two Polish).

They're all teenagers right now and the d'Uccle and one of the Polish are the only two who crow.

They only crow shortly after I let them all out of the coop in the morning (about 9am when I get up).

And they only crow for about 5-10 min; then nothing. They don't seem to crow "loud" like a larger roo would, I guess.

I like to hear my roos crowing, so I have to go outside and crow myself just to get 'em started.
