Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Pics
I had a similar experience with a wild chicken. It's true that domestic animals will go semi-feral quickly, in order to survive. I heard a strange growling-cackle one morning next to my rooster pen. There she was a strange looking skinny chicken, with a tall tail. I left food out for her trying to lure her. Then, one morning she was gone...only scattered feathers were left behind. I felt so bad, a predator must have got her in the night. But, just as I started to return to the house, I heard that growling-cackle! And there she was climbing out of the gully. I instantly ran to the back gate, opened it, then ran to get some chicken scratch. I sprinkled the scratch on the ground as I walked back into my yard. She followed me and must have liked it there, she lived there for two weeks. I was able to feed her daily and provided water and other goodies. Then, tragedy struck again...more feathers, but no hen. Where could she be? I searched all over the 2 acre property and beyond for some sort of clue, but, I found nothing. A week went by, then one day when I came home from work, my husband said I have a surprise for you. There she was in our dog crate. Apparently she ended up at a nearby property. The man that lived there said he caught her with a trap. She was in bad shape, bald patches and scratches all over. She was not able to walk, due to a leg injury. But here she is today, my little Riki Tiki Tavi, a whitehackle game hen.

Riki Tiki what a lucky girl you are!!! :hugs

That should be the sequel to theuglychick's story (title pending)

FYI I was just corrected by my Catholic partner that Mother Cabrini is actually patron saint of immigrants & settling into a new home. Exactly what the Squatches need!!
I was also informed that Saint Brigid is patron saint of chicken farmers!! Who knew!! :lau

Lol he went on the lamb and landed in the clink!

I think he looks like a red Pyle OEGB or mix thereof. Cute monster for sure.

If the MRS. is a similar breed you may be catching tiny peeps too.

WOW such an adventure!

I picture you headed into the woods geared up for battle and ready for a fight...... Then plucking him from the tree like a ripe apple thinking "well that was easy".

Hes a real nice rooster.

I dewormed him first thing this morning.

He's crowing away!

No sign of the hen but I'll keep looking and keep y'all updated.

He is so beautiful!!! Yay you! This is so exciting. So he's friendly? He seems like he was around people, at one time?

Can't wait for updates on the hen!

Afraid I actually knew St. Brigid, as my daughter had to do a school project on a saint right after we got chickens. She wanted a saint that no one else would being doing, so we looked up the chicken saint. (you know we Catholics have saints for everything. LOL). This was after she had me bring the cockrel to the pet blessing at school! There were a few chickens there, but her's was the only rooster. LOL

That is pretty accurate, actually. I had my box, a blanket, 2 flashlights, and 3 dogs ready to help.

Nothing but the flashlight and prayers that I didn't get snakebiitten was needed.

I really did just pluck him off the branch. Why can't they all be that easy?!

He's nervous and kind of skittish around us when we walk up to him. He doesn't love quarantine but can easily see all the other chickens.

But he, so far, is not mean when handled. He's really a cute little guy. The pics do him no justice.
