Actually, these things can make a chicken colder. If they get wet, it increases the chances of hypothermia. If they aren't almost bald from molting, it packs their feathers down so they can't retain heat by fluffing up their feathers.
You shouldn't give them anything moldy or mildew .can cause respiratory infection.I had 2 bales of straw on my wire bottomed garden cart and covered in 2 tarps. When I opened the tarp both were soaked AND I was greeted with a pair of beady little mouse eyes!
I tossed it all in the run since it was only like 2 weeks old. Yes Mouse and all went in the run.....although mouse had stopped moving for some reason.....there may have been a shovel involved.
