Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

I wish I had been able to film it!!! The hummingbird just buzzed past her and my little goof ball was so scared she ran away and hid under a rose bush

Actually, these things can make a chicken colder. If they get wet, it increases the chances of hypothermia. If they aren't almost bald from molting, it packs their feathers down so they can't retain heat by fluffing up their feathers.

I had 2 bales of straw on my wire bottomed garden cart and covered in 2 tarps. When I opened the tarp both were soaked AND I was greeted with a pair of beady little mouse eyes!
I tossed it all in the run since it was only like 2 weeks old. Yes Mouse and all went in the run.....although mouse had stopped moving for some reason.....there may have been a shovel involved.

You shouldn't give them anything moldy or mildew .can cause respiratory infection.

Rest assured it was not moldy. It was wet from a rain a few nights prior and had been here on that cart only two weeks total.
I had hoped it would have stayed drier so I could use it when it got snowy in the run.

Been keeping birds the better part of 18 years now. No worries I got at least some of it figured out.

I have a story for y'all today!!!!!

The rescue I work for got a call about 4 dumped chickens by a park about an hour from me. Asked if I would go check it out...but of course!

I caught the first one IN the park, with help from my two year old the other three saw what was going and and ran across the road up a gigantic bluffy mountain thing that was covered in thick brush the original rescue person who saw them this morning came with a puppy x pen and we chased the other three up and down and around that dang mountain until at last we caught them up against a huge rock and the pen!!!

Three hens and one roo. I know the black girl is a bsl, the brown girls look like typically brown girls but have black tips on some of their feathering, and I don't know what the roo is. Any ideas? They're all in quarantine right now. The girls are here for good- not sure about mr.Roo yet. I've got a good balance going on with the ones I've got!
