Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Haha. These little bantam cockerels might have a bite of meat on them.

So, at what point do you decide on the cockerels? Isn’t it better to wait until they are older to see how they turn out. These are only 5-6 weeks old.
Think Squab. If they are getting annoying it is time! (Even past time). The male hormones will make the meat tougher.

Thinking about heading out to buy Halloween candy now since it's the day of, and only a handful of hours til sundown.
Do you guys think it's safe?

I am not a person who should be allowed alone in a house with a bag of candy so thus, I try to buy just stuff I don't personally like!
I give out quarters. No candy is safe around here! We do not get enough trick-or-treaters.

Hee hee, there's not many topics that are off-topic here. I think this thread is where topic-rated discussions go to die, so you're definitely good here.

And food is one of our favorite OTs! I've not heard of the thermal cooker. What can you make in it?

My mind really wants to believe it's the aluminum foil wrapped shoe box that you cook a hot dog in the sun. But my other mind is telling me no.
No, that is @rjohns39 solar oven

I saw another thread about the same thing once. They put their chicken down, but I mentioned it to another guy and he said it's totally possible to sew it up and the chicken survive. I hope the bird makes it! When I read that original thread I though why didn't they try sewing it up? We had an iguana years ago that got a cut on it's side and my dad and brother stuffed it's insides back in and sewed it closed. It lived for many more years. I don't know why culling is often people's go to move, unless they planned on doing it in the first place, but the injury just sped up the process.

I was just reading a thread about someone whose chicks were fed rat poison. People are terrible.
Birds and reptiles have amazing recovery powers! My uncle had a desert tortoise that got his leg tangled in fence wire. The leg was green and smelled BAD when I got there. There was nothing to lose, so I had him hold the leg with channel locks while I amputated it with a hacksaw. Pulled some skin over the stump, couple of cotton stitches, & drenched it with Betadine. Speedy (renamed Tripod) lived over 20 years after that. No more wire in the yard!

I'm horrible about tinkering with recipes. Generally, I'll make something the first time as stated and make notes. Then the tinkering will begin... Eventually, I'll get it where I want it and sometimes that right back where we started.:th
Around here, we have to go lightly with the onion and garlic. And low fat. Pre-gallbladder issues, puts a cramp in the style.
