Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

There are lots of answers to the problem of too many cockerels. Crockpot. Roaster. BBQ. Fried. Tacos. The list goes on and on . . .:drool

Haha. These little bantam cockerels might have a bite of meat on them.

So, at what point do you decide on the cockerels? Isn’t it better to wait until they are older to see how they turn out. These are only 5-6 weeks old.

That's the impression I got too.
But I'd rather give it a shot than dispatch the bird, but I've also been a medical tech, a vet tech, and used to have mad skills at drawing arterial blood gasses...
And was raised in the back room of a family owned pet store.
My dads best friend was a vet and he used to stop by every few days to look at the animals.
Sometimes he'd call my dad
In the middle of the night if one of his clients had an emergency and he thought he'd need an extra set of hands. Often my dad would wake me up and let me come with him. I stood on a step stool so I could "see inside". Omg. I loved it!

Did you see the post the other day where a person explained a peaceful way to put a chick to sleep with starter fluid?
Glad to know this for future reference.

Your dad gave you great experiences growing up. So neat!!

Hee hee, there's not many topics that are off-topic here. I think this thread is where topic-rated discussions go to die, so you're definitely good here.

My mind really wants to believe it's the aluminum foil wrapped shoe box that you cook a hot dog in the sun. But my other mind is telling me no.

Wait a minute, isn't that also the thing that you use to look at the eclipse (so as not to burn your retinas out?!) lol!!!

Yes he did. Sadly he passed when I was in my early twenties (56 now) and lived to meet one of my four kids.
My second oldest son is SO like him and bears an incredible family resemblance to his side of the family. Often he'll ask me if my dad would have "liked him" which alway brings a smile to my heart because they would have, indeed, been two peas in a pod !

I've been on it too. I don't think the owner is at a level that they can do the surgery, and they don't seem to want to take it to a vet.

That's the impression I got too.

I think I'd feel better about trying to save it and it not make it than have to cull it myself. I don't have any training medical or otherwise, but I feel like I could do it if I have to, esp if someone can tell me what to do.. cleaning it out and that stuff. I saw a girl on Maury once who burned out her own tonsils with a wood burning kit. I think I can handle sewing a chicken back together.
