Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

I saw an intesting story on Xennials. Born between 77-83 it's a micro generation between Gen X and Millennials.

I am not at a point where I feel like counting all the birds..........that's all I have to say about that.....

That really means 80!

Roosters -6 as not only are they male they are BANTAM

Females -6 as well as they are bantam and prone to be broody!

Oh wait.... Potential pigeon eggs!! -3 more SOOO that means in this space there is a negative 15 birds!!!!

Lovely space but the void of chickens is creating a vacuum drawing chickens from afar!! The Squatches being bantam were less able to avoid the suction therefore arrived first!!

Heh heh, I'll share my system for sneaking more birds past the warden.

My hubby (DH) likes that I love my birds, they keep me busy which is important because for me, an idle mind is the devils playground. So he really doesn't give me too much trouble about them. However, he is not a "bird" or "chicken" person (I didnt know this going into the relationship, but I guess in his defense, neither did he know that I was), and unlike me, he does have a limit. He thinks 9 chickens is a sufficient number.

Seriously. What am I supposed to do with 9 chickens?!

First I learned that if I don't count, DH doesn't know the exact # of birds we have.

If I get purebreeds, they all look alike, and he thinks that it's less birds because...

If I free range, DH will only see about 1/4 of the birds at any given time.

90% of biddies are easily concealed in the brooder by Mama heating pad. So when he sees this he doesn't know he's only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

The only way he will ever know the sheer true # of birds we have is to go into the coop at night and count them on the roost.

This will never happen because DH is mortified of snakes and I am sure I let him know about ALL the snakes that I "find" in and around the coop.

DH still thinks we have 9 chickens. I don't think even understands why we are adding on for 9 birds.

In reality, according to the law of negatives and Chicken Math, we have about 35-40, give or take 5 bantams that apparently cancel out one or two adult birds, lol!

This is going to be a tricky week because I have to integrate/conceal 2 shipments of chicks and juveniles into the flock without notice.

I actually did a sneaky trade yesterday. I had three boys and one went to his new home. While I was still out and about after delivery I found out a local breeder was having a sale.

Managed to only bring home 1. St. Francis the Bantam Cochin. Slipped her in with the others and the BF didn't notice, yet.

I know it's a risk. I unfortunately don't have a real way to isolate in a quarantine type fashion. Where I got her is a breeder I've used before and didn't have any problems with.
I'll also give everyone a little immune boost in their food for a little bit.

Nothing against millennialis, but I've never had anything in common with the stereotypes.

I've been at the same job for 16 years... I live in the sticks... I don't eat fancy avocado toast (although I'd probably like it)... I don't even watch TV... I do angrily tap my phone with no clear understanding of what I'm doing in effort to operate it.

The list goes on.

My DH never goes to the coop, but had to when I went to Colorado for a week.

I need input!!! I have 5 Bantam Buff Brahma and 6 Silkies, they are all 2 weeks old. I have the opportunity to add in some Bantam Cochin’s. YES or NO??

I have read where they can be mean, but I spent time with some and those were so precious! I am so torn!!!

Buff’s were ordered and should be 4 females and 1 male. Silkies are straight run so i am sure I will have to get rid of some. I might out to get more in hopes of more females. The cochins would be straight run too.
