Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Well, one of my brats paid the ultimate price today for being a brat, but my other four brats impressed me especially my IL roo. Red Tailed hawk flew over the pasture today... My IL roo herded his girls off to cover, one brat went and hid in the dog house, the Toms in pasture huddled everyone up in their shelters or inside their defensive circle. and the one brat, totally oblivious continued to scratch out in the open. The hawk landed outside the fence she was in (just welded wire), reached through and snatched her through the fence. She then flew off as she realized I was gaining on her—but too late for the brat chicken.
Oh no!!!! That sounds like a Halloween horror flick. That was tough to watch I’m sure.

I put her back inside the electric fence dozens of times and finally gave up. Told DW we were going to lose her at some point. BTW, the hawk is annoyed at us. We put her into the compost pile and buried her. The hawk sat in the tree screeching at me. Then the small hawk, who would never dare to tangle with a full grown chicken, came and yelled at me too. They enjoy their protected status, though I often wonder who could tell the feathers apart in compost?

sorry rjohns39 for your loss
must be hawk day. I was cleaning up from freezer camp and heard the roos give an alarm.. I walked over and see a flash of brown and broody + chicken nuggets running in the now empty bachelor pad... I hopped the 3' dividing fence, not sure how this old lady did that, and found a type of hawk I hadn't seen on a 7wk br pullet.. I ran swearing and the hawk went up to a tree... Blood out of the mouth, rt eye closed and torn skin on rt side of the neck. .. put her in a crate w/heating pad, a few hrs later she was walking around , didn't drink until I gave an eyedropper in her mouth... 7hrs later she is still alive, will see how she is in the morning.
too small for freezer camp. Hawk did come back quickly and was on the ground by the attack site and back another time doing a fly over until the jays went after him.
looking at a bird book..It might have been a red shoulder , it was about the size of a small coopers hawk.. but brown and had bars on the tail.

I saw this and decided to share here. Not a chicken but a foal. If you seen before I apologise for repeat
