Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

I guess I am probably dreaming that I would be able to incorporate day old chicks with 8 week old chicks. I still have some chicks that are extremely small. I am sure it will be a headache! I have a divider in my small coop to keep Sesame away from the chicks and nothing like trying to add a 3rd spot in there for day old chicks. I have lost my mind!
Ok, so this is completely insane, but stick with me... hamster cage. I got 4 day old egger chicks that were more than a month younger than my oldest chicks. Much to small to be put in with those giant beasts. I did try putting them in, but the big ones immediately went after the littles. Even the ones that were only 3 weeks older were picking on them. So they went in a hamster cage. I put it inside the big brooder space and they all lived happily ever after... I did have to put a piece of poster board over the top b/c the big birds would jump on the cage and poop on the babies (not intentionally... I think). I originally bought the hamster cage b/c the chick that became my bantam cockerel Willie was a jerk face and would attack all the black chicks. Odd b/c he was also black, but he was racist so he got put in hamster cage jail b/c we don't condone racism in our coop. I got the cage from Walmart, which I would not recommend for an actual hamster unless it's a dwarf ham b/c our ham did not fit in it at all. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hamster-One-Size-Funny-Home-Cage/47133384

The food dishes that came w/ the hamster cage didn't work for the chicks so I got a pack of bird dishes from the pet store. You can see them in the photo. They don't hold much so they need to be refilled more often. But they fit in the cage. You may be able to find something that works better. I tried the tube feeders for birds and they worked when Willie was in there, but I got the other dishes after I got the babies.

Good gravy, you guys! I'm gone for less than two hours and I have 4 pages to read through? My toddler decided that at 10:40 that "naptime" was over. Poor dude is teething and has a bit of a fever. Hopefully he goes back to sleep soon. registration for the auction starts at 8am and it is 2 hours away. So, 5am comes early. Thank goodness fall-back is tonight. I'll need the extra sleep.
Holy smokes! You a near giant! I am only 5’6” but I think I am getting shorter. I feel shorter. Probably all that darn arthritis in my neck and back.

Girl you are so wrong here....She isn't a near giant SHE IS A GIANT.
Trust me I am an expert is sizes.
@Rjohns is a giant too.

I'm definitely extremely tall that the least. I've had a bunch of inventive nicknames bestowed on me over the years, Longshanks, Jolly Green Giant, etc.

Did she tag you..cause she sure didn't tag me!

No, I haven't been tagged yet.

Great imagination. I love it

Actually, we started Lizbeth in a cage we use to keep sick/injured rats from moving around too much. When she outgrew that, she moved into a single level rat cage. Her current cage is 8 sq feet, and she is right next to Gurtrude, who has a 16 sq ft pen. They live in the living room with the parakeets, so they have people with them and out time daily.

I guess having small animals made it easier for me to think outside the brooder box. Having indoor chickens is also helpful when others need to figure out setups for hen hospitals and temp indoor situations.

The top one is the first cage, the bottom is the second cage.

The heat lamp is currently keeping our keets toasty, but it was set up for Lizbeth when she was little.
