Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

This was a volunteer cherry tomato. I've kept it alive through two foretasted frosts and it was loaded with little green jewels. My ginger is going into the greenhouse in hopes it will come back in spring. A recipe I want to try, when I get the ginger. Take a whole lemon and cut slits all around it. Slice up some garlic and ginger. Put all three in the cavity of a whole chicken. Give it a rubdown with your favorite rub and roast it. After its done, squeeze the remaining lemon juice over the bird.
Hey! Hurry up! Run out there and pick them now and put them in a big ziplock and throw them in the freezer.
They are fantastic burst in a frying pan over the winter.

Little olive oil little garlic throw them in frozen on high heat.
Keep the pan moving. Roll them around til they start to crack open.
Add juice of 1whole lemon and keep moving them around in the pan until the liquid is almost gone.

I wish I enjoyed gardening, I just don’t. I do enjoy growing tomatoes, basil and jalapeños. Our household is difficult. We all like different foods, so to cook for even 2 is limited for variety. Sigh.
The sun is up, so maybe the chill is gone and my body is loosened up enough to work.
Take it slow until your muscles are warmed up.

Then container gardening or raised beds would change your life. Less bending.
Hardly ever an weeds.
It's way easier on the body.
I have a little garden stool that I really like.
I have to be careful of my back.

That sounds delicious!
This year my ginger came back even though I thought I'd dug it all up!

17f this morning and light snow flurries.. I have a broody who decided 8am is the time she takes her morning constitutional :barnie she is off the eggs about 15 min but it is cold out.. most of my hens wait until the warmest part of the day not the coldest. I live in a hole so the sun hasn't hit the coop yet... She hatched at Easter and this is her first attempt.... we will see if anything hatches.

I slept naked until I had my son. I need a bra so milk doesn't get everywhere and I need at least some sort of bottoms on because he thinks it is fun to pull hair (head, arm, leg, you name it).
Same. After you have kids it's harder b/c they don't knock. I remember once when my daughter was little and I was still married she woke up and came running in. Where's my clothes?! I get that some people are ok w/ all that, but I don't think any kid needs to see their parents that way. Once my nephew's mom changed her shirt in front of him, no bra, he was little and still says he's scarred for life.

I think Sesame knows her name. I spotted a hawk today and the last time I saw Sesame she was free ranging. I was running around looking for her, shouting her name and she answered me, TWICE. Maybe coincidence, but I won’t change my story. :)
My younger child said mama twice when she was only 2 months old.. No one believed me. I believe you.

Question: Is there less waste with pellet food? How do they eat it? Whole or break it up?
IMO there's less waste b/c the crumble turns to powder faster than the pellets. I actually mix pellet and crumble b/c it seemed like they were going through the crumble super fast. I put my feed in a plastic trash can and just scoop. I was feeding them in dog food bowls until last night and they would scratch everything onto the floor. When I cleaned the coop there was soooo much powdered feed on the floor. I'm hoping the new feeder will help w/ that waste, but I'm still going to mix feed. But can I point out how annoying it is that they don't have the higher protein feeds in pellets? Maybe it's just my store, but the only thing the have that isn't layer is the feather fixer which is $18 for a 40lb bag. Odin is separated & I don't like giving him the layer feed b/c it's supposed to be bad for the boys, but I'm not about to pay $9 for a 7 lb bag of feather fixer.

Yup and mad at the weather guys. Low forecast for last night was 40, so no need to cover my last remaining tomato plant. Woke up to 32 and heavy frost. No more tomato plant. ARG :he:mad:
The weather people are filthy liars. Last Sunday they said the high for Monday was to be 70, then late Sunday night they changed their minds to a high of 50. I still have broccoli growing, uncovered, it's snowing here. I'm going to let it go until it dies and give it to the chickens. I had expected it to broccoli before now.

My son started breaking out with a rash, hoping it was from the strep instead of the antibiotic, it was the antibiotic. Add another allergy to the list.

Been there. At least you noticed it! I didn't and assumed it was her usual hives. She was actually allergic to an inactive ingredient in the pill form of augmentin. Go figure.

@Smuvers Farm
I used a giant rectangular Rubbermaid tote for my brooder box.
Ditto! But if you use a heat lamp, don't attach it to the tote b/c it can melt (according to other people). I clamped mine on to a 2x4 next to the brooder & covered it w garden fencing wire we had lying around so there wouldn't be an escapees or murders from our cats. Super easy. Then when my babies turned into velociraptors I lined a 4x4 xpen with cardboard. It worked really well until our coop was finished, but holy hell did it smell after absorbing all the spilled water.

1. @Anansi needs to start POSTING and quit lurking and liking everyone's post!! :D

I believe they swallow it whole.... and, IMO, it's not less wasteful as they fling it around just as much as they do crumble.
For sure! @Anansi.....come out come out where ever you are. Ollie ollie oxen free (does anyone else rememeber that?)

I never thought about inactive ingredients. Maybe in a few weeks we can go to the allergist and have him tested for Penicillin and Cephalosprins.

Back later.
