If anyone not too far from me has ever dealt with this please let me know. I can't find a vet that will mess with it.

I cut into the cyst like bump and cleaned it and tried to get the "puss" out but it just almost looked like flesh not puss.

HELP!!!

I have, but not successfully.

I have had a few cases. One was REALLY bad and I did go to a vet. There is an Avian Vet in Loveland, CO, the vet clinic is called Aspen Wing. They have seen two of my chickens and one of which was the one with bumblefoot. However, when I noticed the bumble, it was pussy and oozy and stunk. We treated it and I thought I was doing good with it, vet thought so too, but after a month the foot started to turn gangrenous, and it was put her down or amputation. I voted for her to be put down.
I recently had another case of it, but I never cut into it to try to get it out. The hen eventually had to be put down due to other issues.

Wow, Loveland would be quite a drive. I got her from a girl in Louisville last weekend and noticed it on our way home. I'm thinking now that I should've just left it alone. It's bleeding and she won't let mess with it any longer.

How much does that vet charge to deal with this?

my first bubble foot today! this after raising chickens all my life. we are working on it. I posted my adventures a couple of pages back. good luck, I used french green clay with tea tree oil mixed in a paste

I wrapped mine in a towel to keep her still. Wash the area with soap & water and apply neosporin and place some gauze over it and then wrap the foot to keep it clean. Make sure she can still walk fine and the wrap is not to tight. Then check it again in a couple days and reapply until healed. Make sure to wear gloves at all times with touching the foot. She should be fine if you caught it early.

Ruby, I did read that post. You're lucky it just came right out. When I cut Carter's foot open, it didn't look like puss. And nothing came out just bled alot.

Well, we had two or three visits, I think it was over $100, the last one we didnt do anything besides put her down, it was$40.

My friend has successfully treated bumblefoot int he past, though I have never whed her do it so not sure how. I like you, cut open the foot (on this last chicken I tried it on) and all I got was blood, I never saw anything. That bird had it for over a year. What I see is when you look at the pad of the foot, there is a plug like thing. If you pick that off it bleeds like mad. The pad gets swollen and hard. I was NPIP testing the birds this weekend and noticed all my large fowl have these on their feet, though none are swollen or sore. It really makes me think its more of a callous than anything else. My friend had her bird get a piece of corn in her foot infecting it. I do not feed corn or scratch here. I think its from jumping off the roosts, though there is nothing sharp or dangerous in there for them, the coop is 6 years old and roosts are well worn. Highest roost is about 3ft off ground.

On the really bad case I had (the one that went to the vet) hers was already open and oozing, and I did find a large mass of something. But that case, it already was down to the bone and all. We were soaking and washing it and cleaning it every day and wrapping in gauze. We even had a foam shoe made by the vet to let air get to it from underneath to help dry it out.
It was nasty.
