lots of people call themselves christians but dont live according to the teachings of Jesus

But aint't he the guy who said "Judge not lest ye be judged" and "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"?

Just playin' with ya!

Personally I don't worry about what other people do or do not do. Or what they believe or don't believe. I worry about myself and making sure I live up to my own code, which often isn't as easy as it sounds.

Melissa034,
I look forward to discussing something other than beliefs with you in the future. You defiantly have a unique perspective and stick to your argument well...(I respect that.)

However, I am feeling like the wicked witch of the west. "I am melting...I am melting" with all this beliefs talk and debate. So for know I am going to hop on my broomstick and fly off, to go commune with mother earth..

ON

Sweet dreams everyone..

That was an excellent article and I liked reading the comments also.

I think that religion limits God because it states with certainty what a divine being would be. If there is a higher power then our minds won't be able to comprehend it anyway. How can we put boundaries on God and say only one religion or way of thinking is has the entire truth?

I am not surprised by the response from the Jesuit. His livelihood depends on adding more lemmings to the horde. If people begin to think for themselves and *GASP!* stop following the herd, who will pay his salary?

If he can make it sound evil, or "lazy", then maybe he can get the weak minded ones to get back in line as they near the cliff.

wow that was awsome deb1.

However, for me, i dont think being spiritual instead of religious leaves me unaccountable. I do go to church and I am very involved. by doing so I am surrounded by like minded people and we hold each other accountable to Gods word. not individually but as a body. Our church is not focused on tradition, But how God is moving in our lives just as much on a small scale as a large scale. There are no you must dress this way, you must do this, you must give this. Its take you how you are and love you. It is a non-denomination church that puts the focus on Him rather than ourselves. when I was on my own Did I love God as much. Yes. was i being a good person. I think so. What I wasnt doing was my part in the body.

At the moment I forget who said this in a prior post but I love the statement. About when we do get before God. Theres not going to be different signs for what "religion" you are. At that time we will all be individually accountable. And a walk with God, if you believe in God, is diffinately and individual walk. i believe when its time. The question will be more like "what did you do with the life a gave you?' more than "did you go to church and what was the name of it?"

If some of you are correct in thinking, Im nuts. I have nothing to lose. If there is no heaven and hell we will all end up in the grave. I found that making a choice where I cant lose anything I either break even or I come out ahead. No harm no fowl.

Everyone here deserves to be loved, happy, prosperous, and have purpose in there life. You cant tell me how to do that, and I cant tell you how to do that. I cant tell you that you dont have that, and you cant tell me that I dont. again individual. so I pray we all are. wow that would be cool.

i consider myself a little spiritual as well vs. religious. If I were going to practice it would be one of the earth based . I don't believe I have to worship a higher power to believe in myself and those around me. i try to be good person and live let live forgive and TRY to be understanding etc. That is all I try to do.

On my Google home page is a widget that gives me three quotations each day. Here are the first two today:

The one serious conviction that a man should have is that nothing is to be taken too seriously.
- Nicholas Butler

Faith is a cop-out. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can’t be taken on its own merits.
- Dan Barker

That make sense!

I case you're still curious, here's the third one:

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs.
- Unknown

Perhaps that too could be relevant to the theme of this thread!

SunnyDawn and I were at our Chickenstock this weekend, and got to camp and chat a bit. This allowed us time to talk about all kinds of things, and this thread (and its posters) definitely came up. I really value the discourse that happens here. It's rare and wonderful!
