I love people who truly live their religions- they are usually peaceful to be around. They truly embody the concept of "judge not, lest ye be judged."

Does anyone know how many people in the US feel this way? I do not know if there is a number ratio out there.

I know some South American Indians never had God until the missionaries came over. They did fine without the Bible and I don't always like the self sacrificing part.

Now what did we left off?

I will open this up after I finish my now cold lunch and clean it AGAIN.

Please think about this. Stay on topic or don't post. Easy.

Cold omelet. Yum.

Ok, cleaned up.

I will warn again.

If this subject is not your cup of cocoa, go find something else to read. If this is not what you want to read, then don't. If you don't agree, that's fine, but don't disrupt this thread.

I can relate to so many of you! I like the bit about morals and choosing the right things to do because you want to, not because you feel you have to. I was raised Catholic, even had an aunt who was a nun. I don't ever remember attending church. I dated a guy in high school who convinced me to become born again. That lasted as long as we dated because, well I guess I was young and impressionable. I was married to a protestant for 17 years and we attended church occasionally, especially after he was diagnosed with cancer. Although when he was cured and feeling better Sundays were more for his religious dirt biking...

My Mom "strayed" away from Catholicism for a long time, but now is back in full force church mode. Thankfully she does not force it down my throat (too often). My current husband is an atheist, but we live in the Bible Belt and he is keenly aware of his "offensive (to some, not me) views" and does not create controversy for controversy sake. When we have my folks over I make sure my Mom has time to say grace before dinner and we just quietly bow our heads.

I guess I don't know what I believe. I catch myself saying prayers sometimes in difficult situations or just thanking someone for getting out of a difficult situation. I love nature and animals and people. I feel most at peace when, like one person said, I am riding a horse out in nature with my daughter and when scuba diving. I often tease and say that under the ocean is my church. When I dive there is no one telling me what to do, I can hear my own breathing, I am with nature and I am pretty sure those fish aren't judging me! I love babies because I believe they are one of the purest beings on the planet. They have no "sin", they don't judge, they just want to be held and loved. Shouldn't we all be more like that??

I like a lot of the Native American teachings such as the spirit world. Everyone that has come before us was here to teach us and their spirit is guiding us. I try to live, like others have said, the Golden Rule.

Well keep posting and glad to share with you all.

My boss is VERY religious. He knows that I am not "religious" at all. It has always been great working with him because he looks at it this way...as long as I follow the "golden rule", thats all that matters in his book. "Treat people the way you would have them treat you" is how I look at it! As long as you can be good to others around you are on the right path.

Edited to say: I really like this thread!!!!!

it sounds like you already found your spiritual truth.

No not quite. I have a hard time when some folks take advantage. It's not enough for people to just say I'm a nice guy for want to help others without compensation. I want it to make an impact sort of like pay it forward. I believe there's a little piece of God within each of us. It's just a matter of reaching that part in others and getting it to shine. It always angered me when the preachers would stand at their pulpit and bang there fists on it and proclaim you will go to hell if you don't follow the bible, do everything our way and this and that. To me is sounds like black mail or some kind of threat. Like Darth Vader said to Luke "join us or die". I think there are ways to lead people to spiritual truth without the threat of eternal damnation with no possibility of parole. If they can't accept it willingly then what's the point? I also never understood the term "God fearing". I'm sorry, it's impossible for me to love something I fear. Now respect is definitely appropriate for me as that goes hand in hand with love but to me fear goes hand in hand with hate. All in all I'd say my problem isn't with God but with man and those that claim to know his will and then force it down my throat. I have my share of friends and family that are trying to "lead me back to God" but I tell them I never left. I'm just not going the same way as you. Take it or leave it.
Hope I didn't step outside the bounds of forum rules. No offense if I'm edited.
