anyone notice anything different at Wal-mart (LONG RANT)

While Mr Walt was alive he had mostly american made products and I liked that but since his greedy relatives took over it is all China etc. i am no longer happy there. But where else can I shop all the other stores that it replaced went out of business! Jean

Every time I go to walmart, they have less selection. They no longer carry the lower carb pasta noodles and the no sugar added spaghetti sauce. There are lots of affordable healthy foods that they no longer carry. They just have garbage on their shelves. I shop there as little as possible.

Much as I hate Wal-mart, being a small business, I have to just chime in and state something that you may not have realized....(sorry)

Books, and Software for computers, have always been listed in the fine print of thier return clauses. Some people are not honest. They will buy a book, take it home, read it, and return it. You are clearly not one of these people, so the management made a judgement call, and gave you your money back, but consider how much they might loose, if they couldnt make that distinction? Dont get me wrong, I would love to see wal-mart go belly up......but, as a retailer, I too often have to deal with people trying to pull a fast one.

I sell plants, and every year I get someone who killed a perfectly healthy planter or hanger by NOT watering it.... I can tell, you know, by the sahara like soil.... inevitably they want a replacement, or money back.....

Different from your situation, I know, but the flip side of a scary coin?

I am glad you got your money back.....

i VERY rarely shop at Wal-Mart. being in a small town, there are only so many choices, but i avoid them.

i do, however, have to go there tonight and will see if ours has changed also.

MOST stores will not accept a return of ANY media (books, videos, cd's etc) unless exchanged for the same item exactly. if that was their issue, they should have made that clear instead of the 48 hr. issue.

I can remember when they had made in the usa on their signs outside. I wish we had a target around here and it was like the super walmarts as I would go there. Can't find a place that is just usa made anymore can we?

I would be willing to bet, if you searched around, you will find what you need, perhaps not all in one convienient local.... but we are still here, well at least some of us, hanging on by our finger nails....

Wal-mart has you convinced they have the best prices, but if you take a close look, most of the time, they dont!! My local Hannafords has cleaning supplies less expensive than wal-mart! couldnt believe it! now, I actually compare, and I am still often shocked! And you cant rely on consistant pricing at wal-mart either, they change it all the time, sometimes just by pennies. and they are not always..'rollbacks' either!

Check it out, how many of us actually comparison shop any more?

You know everybody has their own experiences with WalMart, some good and some bad.

That being said, if you buy anything for somebody else there, ask for a Gift Receipt. Simple, no questions asked, the register prints one out for you, but you have to tell the cashier first before they ring the item up. Put that with the gift and let them return it if they want.

The return policies are on signs behind the customer service desk and in the electronics department as well. However, since WalMart sells books at 10% below the list price they do have the right to restrict returns on them. The only reason that policy is in effect is due to people who purschase books, read them and return them.

The store number, phone number and store manager's name are printed on every receipt. If you feel that you have been unfairly treated, call the store and ask to speak to the manager. If you don't get satisfaction from the store manager then you can ask for the District Manager's name and phone number, which by the way is also posted behind the customer service desk.

If you still can't get any satisfaction then you can always go to WalMart.com and send an email letter to the president. Any letters to the president are cc:d automatically to both the store manager and the district manager and they have 24 hours to respond back as to the resolution of the problem to the president.

Just remember though, your own attitude sets the tone of your visit to any store. If you go in to any store with a lousy attitude, then your shopping experience will be lousy, if you go in with a positive attitude and treat people the way you want to be treated then your experience will be entirely different.

The cashiers are people just like yourselves, sometimes having to stand on their feet for 8 hours a shift dealing with customer's, alot of times who have forgotten common decency and civility, as if they should be waited on hand and foot, and they are the only person who matters and yet they let their children run wild in the store, tearing things up, or better yet, they take food items off the shelf or out of the coolers and then leave them in some other department, half eaten or opened or just left sitting there to spoil.

Remember you are in charge of your own experiences, and you choose how they effect you.

A lot of people here are worried about the other businesses in town if a Walmart Super Store goes in.

Even without a Walmart our town has lost some long-established businesses in 2008 - jewelry store, hardware, specialty toy store, Albertson's grocer, and more.

Apparently land has been leased and we got a notice of a public hearing. They were turned down 4 years ago, but this time we hear it's going to go in. We heard they will close the smaller store 19 miles away, which may draw more business to our town.

Yes it will but it also draws other less desirable people as well.

The town the super Walmart is in here is the only Walmart in a 50 mile radius so people drive a fairly good distances to get to it. The town has a population of around 6,000 people and they had never had a robbery in the town before the Walmart moved in 3 years ago. In the last three years they have tripled their police force and talking about adding more officers for next years budget.

All I can say is I'm glad I don't live there and it's a real shame for the good families that do.
