My son and I want some golden laced polish chickens. We're not going to show these birds, but do want nice looking birds. We had been considering ordering from McMurray when it gets a little warmer. Recently on you tube I saw video of chicks from Mcmurray that were supposed to be golden laced polish, well they were polish yes but their lacing was sadly lacking. Being the person I am, that is not what I want my chickens to look like. Has anyone ordered golden lace from Mcmurray? I'm trying to decide to order or not. I'm not in big hurry and wonder if I should just try to find some locally. Any thoughts?

If you want nice Polish, I would go with a breeder--try looking on the Polish Breeder's Club web site, maybe you will find someone reasonably close to you. http://groups.msn.com/PolishChickens

Breeders
are always going to end up with birds that don't fit in their breeding program/aren't show quality that they need to cull from their flock, but these birds are going to be much closer to the standard than what you'll find from a hatchery. Look for a show breeder who has some "pet quality" birds to sell/re-home.

There are 3 different breeders on the breeders site that have them for sale. We have been talking about them here lately, so go check it out.

I have white crested black polish and silver laced frizzle polish, but that wouldn't help you with goldenlaced.

If the video you saw was of day old chicks being sorted which is the only one I know of on You Tube you would not expect to see lacing. Some laced varieties don't even show a lot of lacing until they are in their adult plumage.

That said, you really can't count on quality birds from McMurray. Apparently this isn't well known on this board but McMurray doesn't own breeder flocks -hasn't in years. They contract for eggs. Sometimes people get real nice birds from McMurray, sometimes not. Depends on where the eggs came from.
