AHH!! Thanks so much, Wifezilla! I thought I had heard something similar in the past with some name attached to it. I will definitely look it up for more information.

I thought it stood for BARF = Bones and Raw Food

There is a ton of info out there for Raw diets for dogs and cats.
I've done a lot of research on this myself. There is an incredible Yahoo group out there with lots of info and support. Just do a little research. Personally I would never feed cooked bones , either pressure cooked or otherwise. All the enzymes used to break down the bones are gone when cooked. Lots of myths out there and lots of scientific data available too so do your homework, consider the sources you use and make your own decision.

I just personally do not buy into the fact that feeding raw meats makes them want to kill. That just sounds not realistic. I believe that some dogs, regardless of the breed, just want to kill and others won't. We as people just want to have a reason and answer for everything and so we come up with things like this to justify it. I really really believe raw meat is good for them. I think that is what God intended because he made them that way and gave them the teeth to do it. There are lots of people who eat raw meat. I won't even eat a steak unless it is still bloody in the middle. Just wanted to add some more of my 2 cents.

As a current LEO, I know PLENTY of people who feed their dogs raw meat- because it's healthier. Vets will tell you specifically NOT to feed your dog cooked poultry bones, because they can splinter and cause health problems- even killing your dog. Raw chicken backs and turkey necks are absolutely fine. There is a HUGE difference from people feeding their pit bulls raw meat and everyone else. By that logic, you could make an angry pit bull into a golden retriever by feeding him vegetarian. As for the digestive tract of a dog- it is fine with raw food. My dog will eat huge piles of chicken poo and it's own poo, with no problems- I've had plenty of dogs that will dig up a weeks old dead deer or rotten fish guts to snack on, and worst case scenario, they throw up- that's it.

I'm baffled how people on BYC, who raise their own chickens because it's healthier, could possibly think that unknown ingredient containing, corn based kibble (you ever see a dog eat an ear of corn??) would be healthier than meat.

I think that if your going to debate or disagree at least inform yourself before jumping in the topic.

Jaku hit it right on the nose.... Raw diet is a very healthy alternative to dried kibble. Cooked meat and bones do more harm to a dog than raw. The bones are soft and pliable when fed raw and when cooked the become brittle and break as splinters when the are ate.

So again before even debating a subject like this you need to do a little research. I know a lot of people that would be offended by the comments that are made... but for me it's not a big deal as some people here are just mis informed. Like someone stated google BARF and read about it.

I started feeding RMB (raw meat and bones including offal) when my lab was 7 years old. I fed huge pork shoulders with bone, whole chickens cleaned and any other meat that I could find on sale for a $1.00 a lb. She was able to eat the pork and chicken bones just fine..kept her busy for awhile, but not the beef bones as they are too hard and could break teeth. I would go to the butcher and ask him for the chicken feet which he discarded anyhow and fed them to her for the glucosamine (sp)as she got older.

Speaking of teeth WOW..she didn't have to ever go for a cleaning after she started on raw. I also at that time stopped all vacines which helped her live a long and healthy life. I was a house rabbit rescuer and had a number of rabbits running up and over her and she never tried to eat them lol!

Respectfully my understanding is BYC is not a forum for debates but a friendly exchange of ideas and opinions centered around chickens. I respect your opinion please respect mine without suggesting that I not disclose mine. Unless I go look at your website, or agree with you.

Again I adamantly do not want to offend and believe I stated that a couple times. I do not believe in the feeding to MY pets of raw meat. And my pets live long and healthy lives. From my parrots to my dogs. If you are wishing a debate or a argument I suggest someone other than me on this issue. I do not find it important enough to fight over. I will respectfully bow out with respect for all. Thank You
