Anyone sell eggs at an honor system egg stand? Have problems?

For us, when our produce was taken, we felt shock or confusion. But I do think the person came back and paid, perhaps they just didn't have small bills and our produce has sold out and they wanted the items before they went.

I think for you it depends on your area. Our area is very good, no gangs and very minimal lawbreaking (DWIs mostly). Plus our reputation for having big dogs helps.

You could try and post an ad on a local website for your eggs and have people call ahead.

Thought I'd add that the goat stand is not advertised on the road. They have their products at some local stores and a well maintained website as well as are occasionally in the local paper, so you pretty much have to be looking for them to find them. Their stand is on their property right alongside their goats and house, and it looks like they don't keep it so heavily stocked that they'd ever lose too much product if someone did steal it. They have a little removable lock box for money, and making a habit of emptying a few times a day would probably help keep that from going missing.

This is what my boys and I build to sell eggs out of. We use the honor system and it's gone really well so far. It's on a somewhat busy road (goes to the dump) so they've been selling out a lot.

PS You can't see it very well but the $ goes in a slot at the bottom of the box and it drops into a drawer that is opened on the backside (also has a small lock but we don't lock it). We live in a small town which seems to work better with an honor system for whatever reason. We've only been doing this for 6 months or so (it's more of a long home school project).

I just put a cooler at the end of the driveway on a little table with a. "eggs for sale" sign on it and a coffee can for the money. It's an experiment to see if there is even a market for the eggs. I'm pretty rural and I think everyone has chickens out here but what the heck. If it covers feed for the week then I break even.

I already had the cooler, coffee can and lord knows I have eggs. I suppose if the eggs do sell then I'll have no problems justifying to the wife that I should build another coop.
