Anyone set yesterday or today?

I
found for the cheap digitals it's best to at least leave them overnight. How fast the humidity becomes accurate can depend on the size of the bag and amount of salt and water you use then how quickly your humidity gauge reacts.

The standing on sponges and hitting the element is why the incubator companies will get very upset and tell you to stop ignoring directions if you call them about it. You should not place anything they can get on to into the incubator. Some have had eyes burnt shut and other serious injuries. Sponges should go under the mesh or I use either something that squishes down like towels or a solid container too tall for them to get into and too heavy to be knocked over.

Good to know thanks. I added sponges because I was told that it would get my humidity up and I did it.

I will use paper towels next time.

Paper towels don't last long. They are only good for a quick burst of humidity for a few hours. Some use actual towels like washcloths. Sponges can work great but they need to be under the mesh or of a size, shape, or in something that keeps the chicks from standing on them and hitting the heater.

Today is day 20 for me! I am so excited I couldn't sleep. My daughter and I successfully accomplished "mission box swap" about 10 pm last night. We had to move the broody from the nest box she was in to a brooder as the nest box is about 24" off the floor. I had several days ago put a cardboard box with the front cut out into the nest when I caught the hen off of it. I just put shavings in it and transferred the eggs into it, then put the cardboard box into the nest box before she came back from her break. It made moving her last night a piece of cake. I simply reached in the nest box and picked up the box full of broody hen, nest and eggs, placed it in a slightly larger cardboard box that my daughter was standing by holding, closed the lid of the cardboard box and put a towel over the front opening I had made in it. Then I walked around the shed to the other room where I had the brooder all ready and set the whole thing down in the brooder. I just removed the towel covering the front opening in the box and closed the brooder lid. We did all this in the dark (thankfully the moon was really bright last night) and my broody never moved or fussed at all. Now I can hardly wait for it to be daylight so I can go take a peek at her. I think it's going to be a long day!
