Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

I'm joining your hatch-a-long. I set two dozen BCM eggs on May 3. Today is day 4, but my eggs are too dark to see anything yet. The wait to candle is killing me. Last year my fertility rate was terrible, but I have a new rooster and I am praying for chicks.

Well Molly has started a nice group here and we're glad you are on board. Some of us have Broodies sitting on eggs (me, molly, randerson) and some of us have the incubator going too in addition to the broodies. I set mine on Cinco de Mayo and am expecting chicks Memorial Day. Hen went broody Easter. All sort of happened around the holidays as it happened....LOL.

Yea! Welcome! There is another may HAL but most of those seem to be hatching alreafy. I was hoping to get people to go crazy with me waiting!

I just got done candling, got rid of 12!! Ah. 2 blood ring. The rest were clear. But I still have 30 in there! Plus the ones under snowball.

Isn't she sweet!?

Thank You! My eggs are in an incubator. I tried hatching with a broody, but I enjoyed hatching them myself so much more. I love to raising my chicks when they hatch.

I was getting set up to incubate but Goofy bird had been sitting for a couple of weeks on air. It would have been smarter for me to do it but I already have a trio of month old phoenix bantams in the laundry room. Having her hatch and raise them will soothe DH also. It looks like I'll be getting some quail eggs soon also, they will have to be inside.

Yes she is!!! My squirt is doing a great job sitting on the nest. Won't eat or drink when I offer but I've been leaving a plate of watermelon, scratch and feed next to her...looks like she's been eating that!!!!

Ahhhhhh I totally cheated and candled an egg. I saw veining and a tiny embryo! I know a lot can go wrong as I'm only on day 3 but in happy to get this far. I only checked one cause I'm doing the "less is more" philosophy if hatching in hopes of keeping my expectations down!!!! It's totally not working...I'm soooo excited!!!!

I tried that to.. didn't work so well! I'm not going to candle under the mama since I see how fertile my eggs are! Oh. We saw the heartbeat in an egg... me and my oldest 2 kids! I was awesome. I had no idea what it was but I remembered about the post here!

Awesome! I'm so glad you and the kids got to experience that. When I saw the heartbeat yesterday, I was so excited and in awe. I made sure the whole family got a chance to see it.

Today was day 12 for the eggs under our broody. The next 9-10 days are going to drag. I can't wait to see little chicks running around with their mama hen!

In the morning I am going to put 12 chicken eggs in the bator with the duck eggs. They should all hatch about the same time then. Still 3 weeks to go on those. Ahhrrg, waiting is painful sometimes.

Joyfulkeeper and Molly you were watching hearts beating day 7? right? I want to candle today (day 4 & 3) But I'm going to try to wait until Sunday.... I don't know how I'll do...LOL. Waiting that is...
