Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

I've got 7 so far and another dozen were pipped. One didn't absorb the yolk as much as he should have so he's wrapped in a wet paper towel and still in the incubator. I don't really have high hopes for him to make it. Teacher called me because she was concerned about the smell from the incubator and how the one doesn't looks so good. The smell, I was concerned that there might be a bad egg ready to explode. I didn't smell one like that - it's just the normal smell from hatching eggs. The one that's weak managed to spread goo over a lot of eggs so we washed them off. I never did that before to eggs ready to hatch but I knew if I left that gunk on, their chance of surviving was pretty low. I figured they were dead if I didn't get that stuff of them anyway so what did I have to lose? Then I coated each egg with a thin layer of coconut oil to help counteract the bacteria. One of the pipped eggs was on the wrong end. I took some shell off yet leaving the membrane, hopefully enough shell is off that he'll be able to make it out on his own, but not until tomorrow since not all his blood was absorbed and probably not the yolk either. Teacher is also concerned about the fluffy chicks - one of them is having a hard time getting to it's feet. I'm telling her not to worry, that it probably just hasn't gotten it's "sea legs" yet. I hope that's all that's wrong with it. And right now sleep is good for them and that's about all they are going to do for the next day or two anyway.

This is my first hatch... I've always had them from hatcheries before and it's interesting cause these guys seem so much more fragile. I think it's cause I saw them hatch and all that.. When you get them elsewhere they come nice and fluffy! This was totally different!

Chickenlindtz,
I have experienced the same thing w this hatch. For the past 24 hrs they have done nothing but lay around, passed out looking but the last hour they are finally up on their feet and pretending to peck around. My first hatch babies were running around like crazy. They were my eggs and this hatch are shipped eggs that had the wonkiest air cells. They are finally acting like little fuzz balls!

Squirts keeping a close eye on her babies put I got a peek!

They are beautiful!

Had a bit of a setback with my Coolerbator, discovered that the fan went out!! So I quick ripped one out of a computer I have and put it in there.... It runs a lot slower it seems than my old one but the temps are even so I hope it will work. I just hope they weren't sitting there with no fan too long. It was strange, with this new fan I had to up the temp considerably.....so maybe it actually does have better air flow, idk.
