Anyone setting eggs on or near today (May 17th)?

Well I've got brown leghorn eggs in the incubator but wouldn't you know it the hen went broody three days ago. She was sitting on a wooden egg so I gave her three eggs from other hens. I'm not sure they're all fertile but I hope so.

Can I join in all the way from Oz? I have 41 eggs in my Hovabator 1602N that were set on the 15th and really need some like minded people to slowly go crazy with! I couldn't help myself and candled 2 eggs on the 4th day and saw changes so I have high hopes for at least some babies, I would be wrapped with a 50% hatch being my first attempt. I dont even know what breed they are yet, they were kindly given to me by a friend of my cousin, so I'm currently trying to find out what I'm expecting!
Good luck to everyone else, fingers crossed for trouble free plentiful hatching!

Has anybody else candled their eggs yet? I am thinking of doing mine tonight. I am so excited!!!
I don't know how to put a signature at the bottom of my post so I am off to find this out to while away my time until it goes dark

Happy hatching xx

Well I'm on day 6 and just candled 7 of 41 eggs - and those 7 are developing! I will candle a few more in a minute, trying to do them 7 at a time in order not to disturb the bator too much. I may have to plan to organise an extra brooder or two i think! Although i should also remember what is said about counting chickens!

We do have a great little group going! My incubator is holding temps steady, but I have three different thermometers in there, and they all read different. I hate that! UGH.. I'm afriad my bator MIGHT be a little too warm, but I think I'm done adjusting it, and we'll see what happens. I plan on candling early next week. Good luck everyone!

Yeah mine too i feel is a little warm even though I also have 3 thermometers reading slightly different temps. I have one that is suppose to be absolutely accurate but doesn't record min or max temps so thats what the other two are there for. The bator has a fan and generally sits at 100.5 but min is 99.5 and max is 101 and thats the best I can get it so i figure i'm better to leave it there rather than stuffing around with it and causing potential problems. From what i can see and with my limited knowledge i think they are spot on or slightly ahead in terms of development. I candled an egg that i knew was not fertile from out of the fridge and used it to compare to my bator eggs - huge difference!!!!

I candled my my eggs last night and 8 out of 9 eggs have good development. One of the Sablepoot eggs had a blood ring so needed to be disposed of.
I am really pleased with these results especially as the 5 Cream Legbar eggs where shipped.
I have bought 'another' thermometer. I will now have 3 in the bator but that is definitely the limit now and I am going to just use the one that shows the middle reading and take the rest out tonight.
Has anybody else candled theirs or is it just me that's the impatient one? lol

Happy hatching x

I set one of my own (yes, just one) on the 17th.....and 14 more yesterday (21st). All easter eggers. Want to candle the one set on the 17th to see if there's anything in there...but have to wait until my husband gets our maglite from his dad's house...hopefully today
