Anyone setting eggs tomorrow (13th March, EDD Apr 3rd)

I got mine in just now. Yay! Yea it will be fun to do it together! Maybe I will be able to candle less, this being my second hatch. Last time I might have candled to much and then again it couldn't have helped that the electric co turned off my electric by mistake, only had 8 hatch. Boy did they hear it from us

. So you all keep my straight about not opening the bator lol

I have a broody that just settled down on 21 bantam eggs today!
She's standard size so they all fit. I'll join ya.

Really small adjustments can make a big difference in temperature. So since you adjusted it, wait about 4-6 hours before making any more adjustments.

And yes, it does take a while for the temp to come back up.

Temperature shot up to 105!

Nightmare.
Why won't it stay put?
Is this a disaster?
I ran it for 3 days to stabilise it before the eggs went in.
Ok.
Am checking it every half hour for next few hours until I get it stable (not to fiddle with setting unless it gets really high - i know it take ages to settle after)
I now have 3 thermometers in there and they all disagree

Does the temperature rise when humidity falls?

I am already researching a more reliable model...

Sorry Loopy...it can be frustrating. Just keep watching it and hopefully it will get regulated soon!!!!

I am thrilled, I borrowed a 2nd incubator today (another LG). It was an older one donated to our 4-H program, so I am the "tester" and so far it seems to be working. We just installed a fan in it and it even came with an egg turner, so as soon as it's up to the right temp, I'm going to split my 52 eggs up into two batches.

Also, if today is day one, which means your eggs went in late last night or this morning, so today Saturday is their first full day in the bator, than the hatch day will be on April 2nd, not the 3rd....or I should say day 21 will be April 2nd. Hatching can cover a period of a couple days.

Yeah, you've really got to watch the temp right after you add the eggs. You know how when you stuff your refrigerator full, everything gets colder because the food is insulating itself? (And if you're me, all your vegetables freeze.) The same thing holds true of the incubator. Temps have a habit of jumping up after the eggs get warm, because they're holding onto heat better than the empty air. The good news is, once you adjust the temp down a little, it will tend to want to stabilize, because there again, the eggs will be insulating each other. I hope I explained that alright, I am referee-ing an epic battle of crashing toy cars between my two little bitty kids in the living room. Apparently one boy having a particular car makes that car instantly more desirable.

And about a week after you start, the developing chicks generate some heat. I just had to turn mine down some and I'm on Day 9.

I initially thought they'd be due April 2nd, then I read that if you set them on saturday then they'll (hopefully) hatch on a saturday - which would be the 3rd April. Bit confused.

I think its stabilized a bit now. And the thermometer's seem a bit more in agreement now too, or at least they are now consistently different to each other

I think iit will be an uphill struggle throughout. We use a wood stove that heats most of downstairs of our house, but overnight most of the rooms drop by up to ten degrees, plus while its diping to freezing outside at night, daytime temps are in the mid 50's, so I'm guessing I'm going to be adjusting it quite a bit...

One more check then off to bed.

I set 30 eggs in a still air hovabator with an automatic turner yesterday morning. So I should get Good Friday chicks but Easter chicks for sure. I have:
4 silkies
6 Blue/Black/splash orpingtons
8 ameraucanas
6 RIR/Ameraucana
2 Gold laced Polish/Ameraucana
3 Black Maran/Ameraucana
3 Cinnamon Queen/Ameraucana

I have an Ameraucana Roo can you tell
And I got my full blood eggs from Mrs. AK Bird Brain

I put mine in yesterday at 10:30 a.m. and it took several hours for the temps to come back up. Now I am holding steady at 101.3 and 51% humidity. I did this last year for the first time with much fewer eggs and had a real hard time keeping the temps steady. With an almost full bator I am shockingly holding steady and have not fiddled with the thermostat at all. Someone on another thread wrote they put a water bottle in the bator. I don't know if this helps stabilize temps for you guys stuggling with temp? Good luck and can't wait to have fuzzy butts in the brooder
