If I had a shed I would likely do the same thing but we have no Sheds here

......And my husband has built all of our rabbit hutches so this was a chance for him to get a break. Plus we just built fencing on almost 1 acre from scratch. And when I saw from scratch I mean we actually used a sawmill to make all of our posts and fence boards. We are generall thrifty but I guess your right, I am in shopping kind of mood! Not to mention I just had a anniversary and my birthday is i a few weeks as well. My friend has a shed for her chickens and its really nice set up. But a coop is cheaper then a shed.

The shed has been sitting around for 1.5 years in a pile, my husband finally put it up in the fall/winter and found out that a lot of it isn't gonna be "stable" enough for what he needs to put in it, but he can fix it "cheap" to make it into my coop.....and then he will build a brand new shed for himself, and let me tell ya, I am not complaining one bit

Could you possibly get a pic of the inside of her coop so we can get some ideas of what to do please?

I can but it will be a while. She lives 45 mins away and just gave birth to twins yesterday afternoon! So I am not going to bother her about her shed coop but it is really nice. So if you dont mind waiting a few weeks, I can get pictures. They have it sectioned off inside so nicely. Her hsuband is very handy and built their rabbit hutches to.

MountainchickenMama we're stalking each other's posts!!! you and i asked the same thing about chicks in the brooder while awaiting a hatch at the same time!! lol!!

I currently have 3 brooders set up and all are full!!!! But I really have things timed out well I think. My larger brooder I have my two white leghorns (Miley and Linsey) and they are going on 6 weeks and they go outside this weekend!!! Thank God because they are driving me nuts. It still gets pretty chilly at night here so its too soon to put them out. One week it will be snow the next 80 degrees! I hate to say this because I'm sure its wrong on so many levels but I really dont care for my leghorns. I got them for white eggs but they are nit friendly, extremly skittish and always trying to escape And suceed!!! I thought it was just them but I got 2 more so we could keep us and my neighbors in eggs and they are just as bad and they are not even 3 weeks old yet. Found one walking around my house this mroning pooping everywhere. No other chicks escape by the way. She is currently in prison! lol. Then in my largest brooder I have a mix of 2 week and 3 week and a few 4 week olds. I think it is very important to mix them no matter size when they are young because if you put them ouside they will bully the smaller ones. By the time these hatch, My 2 longhorns will be outside and I will have room for the new babies. When my eggs On friday go in and they hatch, My 4 week olds will go out and when my Silkie eggs arrive in May, Everyone should almost be otuside!!!!

oh my gosh you have your hands full!!

I know about the leghorns personality...I researched them and from what I've read most people say they are a very nervous type of bird - I just wasn't sure what other chicken to get for large white eggs...

I know. I read about them to. But I really want some nice large white eggs. And I am not keeping all my current chicks. Besides the pullets, I ordered straight run so half of the chicks I have right now will likely be cockerels. And I am not having a bunch or roosters. Then I will start my breeding stock for Wyandottes and Silkies. My plan even though my 2 neighbors (Only have 2) love the idea of chickens, Is to keep them in eggs as well. Just as a gesture for putting up with the rooster. We have over an acre but still, im sure a few roosters are going to suck for them. They will be in the back of my property so they wont bother me. We live on Agricultre zoned land outside of city limits so no one can complain anyways.....But its nice to have a god relationship with neighbors. There is almost nothing worse then having a bad neighbor!

you are so right...better to have agreeableness between neighbors.

Have to thank a neighbor three houses down on our side of the street for keeping and eye on Lucy, my RIR when she escaped the coop and took a leisurely walk down the street to his backyard. I'm so glad he didn't call the cops or eat her.

she's always looking for a way out, so hubby had to secure up any holes big enough for her to crawl out of ....I think she gets antsy being all cooped up due to the snow and severe cold weather we had...because since it's warmed up, she hasn't tried to go anywhere....

I had to get rid of my two roo's cause the neighbor kept complaining about them on FB, she would say "If I hear another rooster crow, dogs bark (which I have 2 dogs), or 1 more 4 wheeler go down this road, I am gonna lose my mind", so we got rid of the roo's.....I got my current eggs from the in-laws who have 1 rooster...I wanted to write back on FB, "Don't move to the mountains if you can't handle the lifestyle" ROFL:lol:

lol! I'm surprised you didn't write that back! lol!! I think it's time for her to move back to the city - maybe she didn't know that moving to the mountains she would encounter chickens, roosters, pick up trucks and dogs...she's silly.
