ok, so now you have me all excited and I'm going to read up on the Dutch bantam - never heard of the breed, so that's always a big positive for me! Thanks for the info.

For the most part, favs are a very sweet docile bird. The one I have is, but she's also always been a bit of a spaz as well lol just like all animals, some live up to being great pets, some not so much lol I would definitely suggest them if you are interested. Now silkies are big balls of goofy fluff. Chewbacca is a sweet guy unless he feels threatened by our Pomeranian, then he's in fight mode. But he's great to us and doesn't mind being held. If your looking for a friendly hen, our friendliest is our Dutch bantam. She flys right up to the inside coop door to say hi, knows her name, and loves attention lol usually when I'm giving our hens treats, she'll sit there and peck the food out of the hand I'm holding it in (she's not spoiled at all...lol) while I'm throwing the treats to the rest of them with the other.

Cinderella...that is too cute!! the $100 chicken - wow! my grandmother would be flipping over in her grave right about now!!

I was wondering how you got your temp to stabilize at 99 or 100 when majority of the electric frying pans I've seen, the lowest number on the heat dial thingy is 200....a puzzlement!!

I can't wait to try it this week though...we have a bunch of second hand stores around here and they have those electric skillets by the hand full and I'm going to get some trial eggs for $2 from a friend of my hubbby's who owns a farm....so I am soooooo excited to try this!! I will definetly keep you posted on my progress!

Two chicks out now, one black and one wheaten Ameraucana bantam. The first hatched at about 3:30 in the morning -- the loud chirping woke me up even though I was in another room! The incubator's in DD's room and after we got up and took pictures I gave her some earplugs so she could get back to sleep. She woke to find #2 pushing out of the shell. Now we have eggs pipping and rolling all over the place. Here's hoping for more babies later today!

I think I finally have my first PIP!!!! Not 100% as it just started, but I do believe it looks different than it did last night, and I have also heard some chirping too, sooooooo I am feeling a little better, but the rest aren't doing anything, so I guess I will start worrying about them now, LOL...

Congrats on all the hatching babies....

OH HOW EXCITING FOR YOU!!!!!!!!! Isn't it a grand feeling!?!

Keeping happy thoughts for a positive pip and zip!!!

you're right, the worrying never seems to end, just changes shift a bit.

I think they know when we're staring because they seem to hatch when we're not looking - they were probably waiting for you to go to bed

they sure have some strong lungs!! I like that though, I'm always afraid of a weak chirp...but if it's nice and robust, I figure they're going to be ok.

I'm near Paris, Tennessee. Most of my adult chickens are Silkie-X and Easter Eggers, but the 'bator just hatched a batch of beautiful Ameraucanas! I'll love to trade eggs once the hens are producing. Put me on your friends list and I'll do the same!

Okay, this evening will be day 21 and might be a little later since this batch had a 2 hour power outage on day 15 and the temp dropped to 85*. The bator has had perfect temp and humidity since so I'm hoping for the best. Let you know when they start...

For all of those that have hatched, well done!
And to all those yet to go, hang tight

I know it's hard.

Got a new batch of Ameraucana eggs ready to go in the bator when I get home and will probably throw some guinea eggs with them.

Are we all insane.....lol

Day 21......Nothing. No movement, No chirping, No pips and I am just devistated. I am not sure what I did wrong since everyone was alive and moving like crazy before they went into lockdown. I am so sad.

Chickenfeverforever

Did you have any temperature fluctuation?
I really expect mine to hatch late due to that. I sat them in the PM so don't expect anything until I get home but then it might be even later...Saturday or Sunday.....we will see.

Hope you have some action yet!!!
