Anyone wanna work out with me???

Eggcentra--don't be depressed! Plenty of us out here weigh more than you do!

*SIGH* At least you got the man; and don't have to worry 'bout catching one!

Breakfast: Cereal. This new Newton's blueberry stuff. Didn't like it. Too many nuts.

Lunch: Yakisoba noodles.

Dinner: Chicken salad with Asian salad dressing. And some fresh homemade bread....*drools*

Exercise: mopped, made bread, stripped stalls, drove my horse.

Weighed myself, and not too happy.....(see theory below though) and staying at an even 168.

cknmom--I too, love iced water! I think it really changes its flavor. We've got some nasty hard water around here, so it makes me gag if it's lukewarm...

wegotchickens-- I do have a theory about peeing before you step on the scale.
tongue.png
Especially if you're a fastidious water-aholic. OH HO! If ice is lighter than water, then if we all ate ice instead of drinking water--in theory, we shouldn't have all that water weight!!!

I wanna join, if it's not too late? And if you don't HAVE to hear all my stats up front. I don't tell ANYbody how much I weigh ... I'll let ya know when I get it down a bit.

I didn't know this thread was here. I started on Monday cutting out all the "bad stuff" as much as possible ... still drinking a glass or two of sweet tea a day and juice sometimes. And I got some baked chips that are only 2 grams of fat. Otherwise I've been good this week.

And I started walking, anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours a day. One hour is about all I usually can squeeze in, but I can sure feel it in my legs. Not sore, really, but I feel the muscles all the time. I need to build stamina to really exercise well.

I'm 41, been out of shape for a long time, and I don't want to wait until my metabolism further slows to do something about it. My mom had lots of health problems from her weight and died at 55. I don't wanna go there.

I'm only 5'1" (actually about a quarter inch shy of that) and I need to lose a LOT of weight. Like I said, if it's ok, I'd rather tell later. I'm too embarrassed.

I'm not even sure just how much. I haven't had working scales in a few years. That doesn't help either, not being able to monitor my weight. I meant to buy a set on Monday, but somehow I bought everything else and forgot the main thing I wanted. I'm going back into town tomorrow, so I plan to buy a set then. Then I'll see how much I need to lose.

Cool idea though. I really wished for someone to do this with, since I don't have anyone around here. I think it will help when I am tempted (like I was today when I got stressed out dealing with a soon-to-be-ex) ... I think I found out WHY I need to lose weight. When I get stressed the first thing I want to do is eat something ... sigh.

I hope I can do it though. I did it once before, so I hope I can again!

I like water, and I've always drank water or unsweetened ice tea. I think I'm feeling it more now because I make myself take a drink whenever I want to eat a treat. I crave a lot of treats.
My new resolution is to jog in place after I've washed my hands, until the toilet bowl refills with water. Get cardio, make sure the handle doesn't need jiggling. Multi-tasking

GoodEgg, your on the right path. Don't worry about stats yet, just about improving your health. Add a new good-health habit every week and the stats will take care of themselves.
A news program on the radio said it takes 3 weeks for an activity to become a habit, so I figure being strict with my new changes should be easier by the end of the month.

If you reach for treats like I do, drink water or chew gum. Gum makes you feel like you're eating, but water fills you up. Both activities actually do burn calories, too.

Monica - we are almost exactly the same height then!

Wegotchickens - Thank you. I remember the last time I lost a lot of weight, how much I enjoyed exercise and it wasn't a chore after a while. 2-1/2 more weeks then, huh? I like the idea of adding something new every week. I'll have to watch here for ideas, because right now I admit I can't think of any. Something for cardio after I get more used to it is good though. Then again, chasing the ducks over and around the yard for 20 minutes (some days!) ought to count. They go right in for my DD. They used to for me.

It's funny, with watching what I eat, I am forced to focus on my habits and learn them. I thought I was bad about craving treats, but I find that I can easily forget about them. UNTIL I get stressed by having to deal with a real problem person. Then I can't get them out of my mind and I fight for hours to resist.

I used to do vigorous gardening or housework when I got stressed. I think that would make a better solution, health-wise and for the sake of getting things accomplished.

I think I just found my next "new habit" to work on!

Thanks,
trish

Welcome GoodEgg! Glad you've jumped on board!

Ok, I'm feeling a little better today. I told my husband that I think I want to start getting up around 6 am and go walking. He woke me up this morning, but left so I went back to sleep. I'm not going to go out walking if he's not here to keep an ear out for the kids. That doesn't make any sense. Anyhow, I thought I'd share a little something with you because I'm kind of curious if anyone else has this.

I have something called Raynaud's phenomenom. You can look it up, but essentially what it is is a weird reaction to cold or stress. Basically, at all times my hands and feet pretty much have a purple-ish cast to them. I suffer from a lot of joint pain as well, and when the pain gets bad, the Raynaud's gets worse. Here's what happens: my body is going through a constant cycle where the blood flow to the surface of my skin is severly restricted, due to a sort of spasm. Once the spasm is over, blood rushes to the area (for me, hands and feet) and pools there, creating a sort of blue-purple color to my hands and feet. If you look at my fingernails at any given time, the tips are white (as if you've pressed down on my nail) and the bottom near the cuticle is purple. Really weird, I know. My doctor said yesterday at my physical (and I can's stress how "fun" that was
roll.png
) that the Raynaud's has gotten sooooo much worse. He put me on Varapamil (a calcium channel blocker), told me to start taking a baby asprin once a day and ordered blood work. He's going to check for any abnormal antibodies. I've had a whole battery of tests done, but had no abnormal antibodies in the past. I do get a positive for tests that are looking for autoimmune diseases (such as lupus). So far we have not been able to pinpoint a disease. I feel soooooo old. I'm 23. I want to work really hard to get healthier. I used to be a smoker and drank heavily (among other things) and have already quit smoking, etc and cut back A LOT on the drinking. So I think for a few years I've already been heading in the right direction. My goal is to loose around 30 pounds, but I'd be happy with 10. I'd like to have the 10 off by the end of October. Cross your fingers for me!

(Sorry this was sooooo long)

Well,

Wed. breakfast: two scrabbled eggs with toast and 1 Tbls butter, coffee
lunch: microwave diet dinner and 1/2 cup dirty rice
dinner: here's where it gets bad....didn't get home from meetings until 9 and ate 1 diet dinner, one large waffle with fruit and whipped topping and a slice of bread

Lesson learned...take a snack with me if I think I'm going to miss a meal time. Yesterday didn't have enough fruits and veggies. At least all the bread I'm eating is homemade whole wheat with oatmeal.

I walked about 45 minutes yesterday and did my library duty at the school. My knee bothers me so much more when I'm standing around then when I'm exercising. I really don't get that. Stupid knee. I'm really hoping that loosing weight will help.

This is working well for me. I've tried weight watchers, but it seemed too much like a revivial meeting to me. This kind of support works for me, I think because all of us are admitting slips, being honest about both weight and eating, are being supportive and are actually cataloging what we are eating for God and all the world to see. Thanks

The surgeon that fixed up my ankle says that he thinks that's what I have. My foot that busted was turning almost black it was so dark! He told me that alot of times you have this and it lays dormant until you stress something(a joint, etc.) or have an injury. Years ago I did something to my other foot and it turned black also.
My primary doctor, that I just fired a few months ago, insists that I don't have Raynauds(?) but that I just have a curculation problem. My surgeon also said that people that smoke and drink are more suseptible to the syndrom. I also used to smoke, still drink but not nearly as much, I also did many other things too. I quit smoking 7yrs ago.
Hopefully when I finally find another doctor he can do tests to figure out for sure if this is the problem or not. I do not know much about this syndrom right now though.
All I can say is to hang in there, and do the best that you can.

Good Egg, when I was going through my divorce years ago, I bought a machete to use on the weeds (cherokee roses, they bite back) around the edges of the fence. Whacking those weeds made me feel sooo much better! And my cultivated rosebushes were dead-headed with extreme prejudice, too.

Never have been much of one for housecleaning though. Good thing DH is a neat freak
smile.png
And my machete has been retired since he trims the shrubs.

Hang in there! It all gets better, one day at a time.

I'm not counting calories yet, just cutting most all of the sweets, and trying to add fiber foods to my family's diet.
Also, by adding exercises to my routine each week rather than all at once, I don't kill myself or my back.
I've sabotaged myself in the past by over-doing the whole diet & exercise routine and then rebounding in an EXTREME way. So I'm easing into it this time.

My ultimate goal is to look GOOD by 10/27. That's when the 20th college reunion is

Monica,

There are no tests that can be done to diagnose Raynaud's. It's based on the symptoms that you give your doctor, and what he can visually make of it. There are two types of Raynaud's - primary and secondary. They are unsure of what causes primary, but it is the most common. Secondary is when the Raynaud's is a symptom of a greater problem. This is the type I have. I have postive results when tested for autoimmune diseases (we just don't know what I have yet). You're correct about it occuring after an injury though. That is also considered secondary Raynaud's. Other causes of secondary are using vibrating power tools for years, smoking, getting frostbite, etc. Perhaps you can talk to your doctor about putting you on a calcium channel blocker. That will open up the capillaries and allow more blood flow to the area. Apparently, my Raynaud's has gotten into my nerves and is causing some horrible sharp, shooting pains. Yesterday I was getting one that was shooting from my left ring finger all the way down to my elbow. I also had, for the first time (and I'm so glad I was seeing the doctor yesterday!), while I was driving my right foot went ICE cold and I couldn't feel the gas petal anymore. It wasn't tingly at all as if it had fallen asleep, just totally cold with no feeling. FREAKED ME OUT! Anyway, there are some silly things you can do to try and prevent really bad symptoms. Go here http://health.yahoo.com/topic/skinconditions/overview/article/healthwise/hw180983 and read about it.
