Anyone want to hatch with me? - Went in 01/16/14.

Meet Woodstove, the only bantam cochin chick of mine to survive incubating/hatching during a power outage. He cuddles the dogs toy cuz he's all alone :hit I hope I can find somebody local with chicks that I can put in with him soon! The poor peeper lol On a high note, at least he hatched! :bun Oh yeah Do the Dance! :jumpy I did have to help which was nerve wracking because everyone tells you not to. But he has the tiniest egg tooth and he was so tangled up in his tiny shell that he couldn't zip after the initial pip, (though I gave him over 24 hours to make progress, he had none so I stepped in)
Awe! I hope I have some survivors from this crazy storm... tomorrow is lock down for me... Fingers crossed. Congrats on your cutie!

So with my second set, I'm trying to be sure to watch my temperatures and humidity closely. For some reason, I feel like the humidity should be in the 30's%.. but it's been between 40 and 50% . Is this OK?

Here are some pictures of my new little babies! I have 3 Silkie/Jap crosses and 1 that I am not sure what hen/rooster combo it was! I had 4/7 that were progressing as should hatch out and honestly don't feel that was a bad hatch considering this was my FIRST ever attempt at incubating.

I have 24 more in incubating now. I don't think they are doing well as I noticed with candling that quite a few look as though they are either behind or have potential blood rings. They were initially placed in the homemade coolerbator, but it wasn't holding temps good at all...the culprit was the fan had died! So I am going tomorrow to get a new fan, and I transferred them to the Little Giant for now and temps are holding at 101-102.

And now for their debut....
Chick 1 Silkie/Jap (possibly purebred silkie but doubt it)

Chick #2- Only LF egg to hatch- Dark slate (possibly a dark olive green) and black and white

Where does it stay without adding any water? Anything between 20 and 40% is OK. It its too high, add a dry washcloth or paper towel to absorb the extra moisture, if its low add a moist one. Imo, its better to stay on the low side and add extra humidity later during lockdown.

Morning everyone or afternoon/evening depending on where you are :)

I recently place 24 quail eggs in Sunday around 1:30pm. This is my first quail batch so I'm so excited and slightly nervous. They are soo small.
Sending good hatching vibes to all who have eggs in the bator.

So cute! We only had one hatch too::( she (I think) is doing great. I try to give her lots of cuddle time. I put a mirror in the brooder which she likes, but the stuffed animal gets ignored. Hopefully in 2 weeks she will have some buddies. Good luck

Still sadly, no progress in any of the eggs. Starting collection for round two today. Going to give them a few more days unless I get a stinker.

That sucks Xovan
