Anyone want to hatch with me? - Went in 01/16/14.

Thanks, Xovan! Welcome to the thread BTW. I guess I am thankful that these are backyard mutts and not some that were shipped or anything. I think I'd be even more devastated.

Xovan- he's beautiful! And your project sounds like its going to be a ton of fun!

Aacre- I'm so sorry! How terrible

But don't give up on them! The last time I incubated, I dropped an egg somewhere around a week in and chipped a piece of shell off where the air cell is (which is one reason why I'm not touching the eggs this time, butter fingers!). I got upset and threw it in the trash. Then, I felt bad and took it back out, then threw it back in. Anyway, I felt so bad I took it back out and patched the hole with a bit of duct tape (fixes everything!). It made it to hatch day and pipped the wrong end of the egg, but it hatched on its own! Perfectly healthy and adorable. It went to a family I met at a chicken swap so they could start their first flock. If it can make it threw all that, there's hope for your eggs I think

:fl for your little egglets. Keep us updated please!

Oh, and I was participating in a hatch-a-long during all of ^ that drama. There are pictures of "Chip's" patched up egg in there and I think pictures after it hatched. Tho I can't remember which thread it was

Oh goodness! That is amazing that it survived. I would have attempted that if they were minor cracks but they broke in several places and everything, so I figured it was a complete lost on the 5 eggs. But the 5 that didn't break, I have hope that they are OK. Thanks for your encouraging words! I thought about not touching any of the eggs, even to candle them, at least until day 18, but I don't know. I'm a mess!

Well, I decided to go ahead and candle them. I was very careful in transporting them.. They didn't go far to be candled, thankfully. It looks like 4 out of 5 survived the fall. It looks like the one that probably didn't is still making a blood ring, but I can tell that it's dead because the veins are collapsed and disappearing and I don't even see the body that was once alive and moving around.

But the other 4 are doing good! And one of them has a crack and dent from the fall. I didn't notice it when I moved it into the new setup, but since he is moving around and seems to be doing well, I just put some tape on it and am

well, removing the entire first set. I am calling them infertile.I'll leave the second set in till day 10 and see. I'm not optimistic though. I think We'll eat eggs for a while and try agian later. I'll post some pics of the flock next time I get a chance.

I know I am a week late but can I join in?

Just to try. If I decide to get serious then I will invest in a good incubator but for now this is just for fun.(Kind of exciting too!!!!)

Here is a pic. Lid was off so temp and humidity are not right.

You sure can, many people on here are out by up to a week as well. WELCOME

. Your flock is great, so many hens and variations. Can't wait to see all your colourful chicks. Good luck!!!

I'm completely devastated right now. I decided to clean my bathroom and do my weekly mopping in there, and that's where my incubator is at since it's the only room that maintains a nice stable temperature. Well, I went to move the table to clean behind it, and one of the legs gave way. Luckily I was right there and able to "help" it to the floor. It didn't shatter the tank but about half of my babies cracked open.

The other 5 are crack free, but that doesn't mean the tumble didn't kill them, unless day 10 is far enough along that it wouldn't. They technically only rolled with the lean and the other 5 bore the brunt of it. I guess I'll find out tonight if they are OK. I knew there was something sketchy about that table I was using! It's things like this that make me want to give up, except for the hope that the other 5 are OK.. Not a good day and it's barely 9am.

Oh goodness I am so so so sorry to hear this.
Please don't give up and I am hoping
fl.gif
that those remaining 5 will be fine.
Just think of it like this, those 5 that cracked would have been the 50% roosters any way

.lol.
That is one reason why I barley go near my bator at all over the hatch, especially when there are cables everywhere. I also wit my bator on a large wood box so that it can't fall.
Sorry about your loss again, good luck with the rest of your hatch though and keep us updated
