Anyone want to hatch with. Today is the big day!!!!!!!!!! (thursday)

20 Mille Fleur Cochin chicks this morning. Still nothing with the three Orloff eggs! Should I leave them in, is it possible they could still hatch? Its early on day 22. They were developing when I candled them earlier.
I will have chick pix later.

I've read to leave them for up to 2 extra days. I did that with my last hatch. Nothing happened but I felt I gave them every chance that way.... just in case.

Congrats on your Mille Fleur Cochin chicks!!

I THINK this is day 5, put in last thursday evening and this is Tuesday afternoon:D

I candled everything. Yesterday I saw a buff leghorn egg with blood veins. Maybe a Bantam Barred Rock, too. A lot of them still look clear, can't see through the Ameraucana eggs AT ALL, many of the others have a darkness around the center area.

Oh well. This is a HUGE STRAIN!

Temps staying between 98-102 on the hovabator and humidity goes from 40-55%.

Its cold in the house 63 degrees and it is raining again and colder yet outside. A good day to huddle under a blanket, but I have to go out to the barn and feed later.

Chicken chores are done. My 4 hens (hey, one is a double laced Barnevelder not a Australorp!) Laid:
2 eggs Day of pick up, 3 eggs yesterday, 2 eggs today.

The eggs are getting progressively smaller? They were on free range and scratch and layer and now they are on medicated 22% starter and Cracked Corn and ground shells and chick grit. There ARE baby red wiggler worms in there with them but apparently they aren't finding many? Gotta keep them fed until I get to TSC today.

But they started out as LARGE in the carton next to the store bought (oh woe, yes I did) Extra Large eggs, and they are going down in size...

HOW LONG BEFORE EGGS SHOULD START SHOWING VEINS, GROWING INSIDE? Am I expecting too much? Welsummer eggs are pretty dark, too to be able to tell blood veins. As long as nothing SMELLS BAD or LEAKS, they are staying in the bator and the egg turner fit and is working fine.....

Warning, picture heavy, lol.
Here are the pics I promised of my Mille Fleur Bantam Cochins. They are a day old, from my own flock, I hatched them in a suro 20 incubator. I got 20 out 22 chicks.
And, I think one of my Orloff eggs is rocking.

My broody started to sit on 2 of her eggs on the 7th and sincetwo night ago one of her eggs was out from underneath her and it was still warm so i didnt worry to much, then that morning an egg was out from underneath her and it was cold! then it happend again that afternoon and it was cold again then that night i went out there and one was out again and it was cold! So i candled it and it was the only fertile one out of the two so i thought the hatch was dead. Then today i went out there after school and an egg was crushed and i was afraid to look but luckily it was the un fertalized egg! So i candled the other one and i can see its heart beating!!! So hopefully i will join in with this hatch along and successfuly hatch a silkie!!!

I am now 5 days into 3 incubators full of 8 dozen silke eggs from 3 different breeders. I just had to check... I found a LOT of veins. I found some clear eggs but I'm not going to pull anything yet. I'm super excited! It's funny, I have the eggs sorted by pens or color depending on who they came from and how they are marked. On more than 1 occasion, all the eggs of a particular color or from a pen are clear. Since they are marked, I'll be able to let the breeders know.

My other incubator still has 30 eggs that are a week further along. I know I have some clear ones but about 24 of them are doing great.

How can 21 days see like such a long time?

Julie

I've seen several posts where power outages have ruined hatches.

Please consider getting the heat packs for hands and feet warmers to use to keep the temps up in the incubator during power outages. I suggest experimenting to see how many you would have to use to maintain temps, but my daughter uses those during football games and they last for several hours. It's the best tip yet that I have seen to keep them warm, unless you have a cooperating broody hen that will sit them for you!

Good luck on your hatches, mine seems not to be growing?? Don't know, hard to see with my flashlight. Leaving them all in the bator until 23 days, got 2 weeks to go, unless something starts getting smelly!

Twinlights--those chick pictures are just TOO DARN CUTE!!!!

Bonnie in Ohio (putting 2 alpacas into the back of a caged in pickup truck for transport to New York, how we going to lift them up there?? Hope I don't get kicked in the head today!
