I have a cat with a crippled leg, Hoppy. He was named that from his previous parents and it just stuck when we got him (er... when me and my brother smuggled him in). We assume that his front leg was broken when he was thrown out of a car, or something similar. It healed crooked and we're 99% sure he doesn't even have feeling in it. He still has the limb, but he cannot use it. Part of it drags on the ground and sometimes bleeds, so if it were to be amputated that would be one reason, the other being the limb is simply useless. He gets around fine, he can hunt, climb trees, run, the only thing is he's a little lopsided when he walks
I'll be interested to see how Fang (brave boy!) does as a tripod and after surgery. Best of luck!
Poor baby! Well, if the first few days of this process are any indication of what the end result will be, I would say that amputation is the way to go - especially if he already doesn't use it and it's prone to get infected/cut/etc. He would probably have a really easy recovery, as Hoppy's already got hopping down pat
