This one looks like a blood ring, but there are still very good veins, and it is also at the top of the egg. A blood ring forms when all the blood of the dead embryo drains out of the veins to the bottom of the sac where the embryo was.
Blood ring='bottom' of egg, no visible veins
Bacteria ring (this case anyway)=dark ring around top of egg, visible veins.
I have had an earlier bacteria ring though that looked just like a ring in the egg. It was about day 4 or 5 I think. Here's a link that will show you better. I would take a pic, but I just candled all 14 of these eggs, plus 4 due in a few days, and 4 or 5 of my coturnix's, so I really should leave it alone for a while!! Maybe tomorrow!

Just scroll down a bit. I had one before that looked exactly like the first bacteria ring. The one this time looks a bit different.
