Apple Cider Vinegar-have you ever drank this?

iamcuriositycat- I agree with you 100 percent! we're so far removed from traditional medicine practices, and the cost is high, both monetarily and healthwise. there's a pill for EVERYTHING these days, but we can't outsmart mother nature, think about anti-biotic resistant pathogens, or the poor women who were told to take prescription calcium supplements, only to break their hips and femurs by simply walking down a flight of stairs because the supplement had replaced their bodies' nature ability to absorb and use calcium.

This past year I've tried to make-over the way my family eats, and make them really think about where their food comes from. we've planted apple and peach trees, berry bushes, and grow a variety of veggies in our garden, we're looking to buy a side of pasture raised beef, and of course, raise chickens for those lovely nutritous eggs(that's my favorite part). I hate to toot my own horn, but my ladies started laying one week before the latest recall(I realize it isn't the first recall and won't be the last, but still, I feel so darn smart for that

It is rewarding seeing my daughters care about their health and make clear conscious decisions about the food they put in their bodies. I find many of the aspects of the industrial food chain quite appalling, and I know I alone can't "fix" anything, but opting-out of as much of it as I can and raising my girls to do the same does make me feel better about a lot of it.

I will most certainly be trying out the ACV drink as flu season is nearly upon us. and I think what I will try with the "funky toe" is I'll first try making a wrap to put on it for a little while everyday, and if that doesn't seem to work I'll soak it. I hope it does work, I've been looking at this ugly toenail for years.

Thanks for your input!

I am sipping some now for my sore throat. I mix it 50/50 with local honey. ACV will even take out food poisoning. It is good for diarrea (SP?) and vomiting. It will kill the bad bacteria that is making you sick and leave the good bacteria alone. Good stuff! If you can't swallow it, mix it with a little water and it will go down easier. I use ACV when I make sweet piclkes and save the pickle juice after we eat the pickles.

Sore throat. Make yourself a good chamomile tea and add the cider and honey to that. Works wonder. Also gargle your throat with salt water. The bacteria causing the sore throat surely hate that.

It was not a calcium supplement, it was a medication to make your body build stronger bones and it does not include calcium. Only problem is also makes the bones brittle. Something they didn't seem to know about. They now know so much more about calcium, but the doctors don't always educate the patients or just don't know. For example you need vitamin d to make the body absorb calcium and keep the bones healthy. There are two vitamin d's. D2 is what the body makes from sunshine, but it need to be converted into d3 for the bones. This is done naturally in the body. There is only one thing. Sun blockers prevent this from happening, plus our skin gets older and produces less of vitamin d2. That is part of the reason we get osteoporosis as we age. Calcium is also an issue. Calcium carbonate is the cheapest, but you do need stomach acid to break it down into calcium citrate so the body will absorb it. So those that are using anti acids reduce the absorption a lot. Again our stomach produces less acid as it ages. So best is to take calcium citrate and add 1000 IU of vitamin D3. They used to say 400 IU of vitamin d3, but now have revised this number. In Europe they advocate 2000 IU per day. Quite interesting stuff. I had stomach surgery a couple of years back, so I need to monitor calcium and vitamins a d e and k intake and have blood work done every 6 months to make sure I'm in the right level.

I use ACV in my tea when I am feeling icky or have a bug. i only use a couple tablespoons but it helps to kill bad bacteria... or something like that, my dad's always done it and we have since we were little.

It also helps with ear wax. Just a drop in each ear and it will dissolve it and clean out your ear channel. Works well in pets too. I use it in my cocker spaniel, who are prone to ear infections.

I've heard of the tea tre oil, but haven't tried it yet.
as for sunlight, my case might be too bad for that cure, I spend almost all of my time outside barefoot(could be how I got it in the first place but...) I can't stand shoes, I'm worse than a little kid, I wear sandals all year(even if the midwest winter) and kick my sandals off first thing when I get in the car. did I mention I hate shoes?

especially this summer, I think I've tried my darndest to give my feet the most sunshine I possibly can.

my brother in law said to try Vick's vaporub because of the eucalyptus, it seemed like it started to work, very slooooowly, not enough progress to write home about so I gave up.

Thanks for the suggestions!

If eucalyptus was working a little bit, why not try a more concentrated version? You can buy eucalyptus oil at health food stores.

However, I'm generally a proponent of using what's local and inexpensive and readily available when possible. The reason every traditional culture has its own medicinal history with its own set of herbs, preparations, tonics, and treatments, is that every culture evolves among different flora and fauna, and each environment yields different medicinal opportunities. We can't really just go back to that any more, unfortunately, but we can try to find treatments based on our local availabilities rather than seeking expensive remedies shipped from around the world. When possible--of course, there are times when the expensive treatment is the only one that works, but there's no reason to start there.

By the way, another thing you might try, speaking of inexpensive, is the power of suggestion. I know it sounds corny, and it may not work for your situation. I've not had it work for fungal infections, but it's free and harmless and can't hurt, and it does in fact work for some things. I had a wart on my finger for six years that I treated with all the standard medical treatments and then a half dozen herbal/holistic treatments and nothing worked until I told my body to get rid of it. And it went away. Specifically, what you do is create a mantra for yourself--you envision your body's defenses such as your white blood cells attacking the fungal invaders, and then you envision your healthy tissues taking over again and growing the way they should. Once you have your vision firmly planted in your mind, you put words to it, stated in a very positive way: "My body is strong and recognizes the fungus as an invader. My body's defenses are strong and my white blood cells (or whatever) are attacking the fungus, eating it and destroying it and removing its toxins from my body..." etc... Then you repeat the mantra regularly and frequently during the day, supplemented at least once a day with a longer envisioning session where you close your eyes and really focus on the thing you are bringing into being.

I know it sounds kind of fishy and weird, but it really can work. Our bodies and minds are connected in ways that modern science can't explain, and we really can harness that connection to change things.

Like I said, it may not work for your fungus, but it won't hurt to try. Good luck!

I have been using ACV for quite awhile, I kinda like the taste. Give it to all my birds chickens, ducks and goose. Can't get hubby to try it though.
