April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Ha, so I was going to revive this thread only to find GreenbrierChickens beat me to it!

I have yet to get all laying on the same day, but I was going to mention that production has started up again! Was down to about 2 eggs a day, but yesterday got 7/13.
Things are looking up come spring

I already got a 6wk BO and BA ready to add to the flock. Waiting another couple weeks before adding them. In control now, but we will see when tractor supply gets the spring chicks in. Thinking of raising some CC for a few months. Only running at 11 hens on 3 acres.

not babies anymore...

We put a light in the coop and the egg production went way up. 9 to 10 eggs a day 11 chickens.

This thread has been dead, but my April '17 EE freeloader finally landed today at 10mo! Lol. Yet to see what color they end up in a few weeks. Still getting 6 eggs/day out of 9 hens, not too bad for no light in coop. Already doing chicken math for springtime. Adding only 3..... That's what I'm telling myself....

Anyone else have a broody hen out of the April 17 chicks? Fajita, my Cuckoo maran, has gone full broody. Belly feathers pulled out, won't leave box for 2 weeks. I keep running her off and she walks behind me pleading her case and right back on the eggs when I leave.

So thinking I should order some eggs and see what happens. Anyone else have a broody hen?
