April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
My girls were hatched on Good Friday April 14. 20 in all! That ales today their 18week bday! On this past Sunday we found our first 3 eggs. Each day 2-4 eggs I've found. But on Wednesday there was 9. Cool beans. How will I know that each and everyone of my girls laid an egg on same day? Would a hen lay more than one in a day? Or when I've gathered 20 eggs in that day would means every hen laid an egg?

Yes, 20 in a day

Got my first for sure new egg layer egg yesterday - from a bantam! It is the most adorable tiny egg ever. Today we caught the layer in action - Pepper, our little barred rock who won best in class at the county fair. :)

I think one of my 4.5 month old regular sized hens might also be laying, but I'm not certain because there are 5 older hens in with them.

1/6----and our little Sebright,Moonshine, has now laid 4 tiny eggs in 5 days!!! None of our other April pullets have laid yet. I had no idea that Sebrights are good layers.
There is one last "chick days" tomorrow at a local feed store, and I think I'll go and get more Sebrights.

I had an interesting conversation about this with the poultry judge at the fair. He said sebrights have become popular, and so to keep up with increased demand they've selected (probably through some cross breeding) for bigger better egg laying birds. Which makes them better pets, but worse for showing if that matters to you. We love our little sebrighht rooster even if he was disqualified on many counts.

Yes, she is! I ordered 2 pullets and a cockerel (I really just needed the cockerel, but the minimum order was three) and one of the pullets died from getting too stressed in transport.
So little Buttercup is my only one.

Hmm... will have to check with the rules committee, it does say entire flock... Can one be a flock? do we have a winner? Rules committee will be @aart since she does not have any April chicks...
