I guess I'll be the oddball, I hatch without a carton and on their sides. Nothing other than no-skid shelf liner. BUT I also use horizontal turners so I do wonder if maybe the change in orientation is what may cause a difference in hatch issues when incubating vertically and hatching horizontally. When I used vertical turners I still hatched laying down because at the time I didn't know any different but I also wasn't paying as close of attention to whether that would make a difference. I may have to help my friend with the Hovabator I gave her and document the hatch since it's a vertical turner.
