April 2020 Hatch-A-Long! All are welcome!

I guess I'll be the oddball, I hatch without a carton and on their sides. Nothing other than no-skid shelf liner. BUT I also use horizontal turners so I do wonder if maybe the change in orientation is what may cause a difference in hatch issues when incubating vertically and hatching horizontally. When I used vertical turners I still hatched laying down because at the time I didn't know any different but I also wasn't paying as close of attention to whether that would make a difference. I may have to help my friend with the Hovabator I gave her and document the hatch since it's a vertical turner.

Day 18 Lockdown on my BBS Ameraucanas. 16/17 looked great last night with obvious movement. One had veining but I couldn’t see it move, so we will see on that one. These are my first non-shipped eggs, so I’m very hopeful that I get quite a few babies.

Oops!! I’m feeling a bit guilty, this little guy hatched in the wrong incubator! I’ve got one set up as a Hatcher which is where he should have been but I must have gotten him mixed up somewhere. He managed to hatch in the turning tray.

She had decided to sit on eggs in the coop.
Other girls were disturbing her so I brought her inside my room.
Hatch date is 8th April.

Getting busy now that we have babies on the ground and in the brooders. Need to set up the outdoor brooding pen so that I can let them out on the grass now that it's starting to warm up a bit during the day. up to 31 total hatched and lots of promising babies. Now that my eggs are hatching better we will have more hatching at a time in the incubator. My next few batches I will have a chick that is renting incubator space plus some more mottled babies hatching.

Into lockdown we go! I caved and bought a second incubator for hatching this small batch of 7! I’ve heard good things about the Brinsea! Four silver laced polish, 2 buff silkies, and one surprise silkie ( for splash). All bantams!

my digital thermometer has always been about 1 degree off. I usually have 2 in there but my other one is in my other incubator. I hope the Brinsea thermometer is accurate! scheduled hatch date of 4/2. Eggs are rocking already! Wondering if I’ll have an early hatch.
